Hello,

Is there a way to change the ring tone on external calls? I found where to change the ring tone on internal calls and queues, but not on external calls or ring groups. I see a few posts from long time ago that this was not possible at that time, just wondering if anything changed.
Using 3CX Pro hosted with X5UV2 (router) phones.

You can not change which ringer tone will be used for external calls, but when you change the internal ringer to anything but Ringer 2, external calls will, by default, use Ring 2, meaning they will ring differently from internal calls.

I have set the internal ringer to 2, expecting the external ringer to be anything but #2, but it still uses #2 for external calls. The problem with the Ringer 2 is that the client uses an app which uses the same tone, and it is therefore difficult to distinguish between platforms.

The point is s to use different ring tones, so set the default ringer to anything but ringer 2 and set the queue to a unique ringer that’s neither ringer 2 or whichever ringer you have chosen for the default.

If you set everything to ringer 2 then all calls wil use the same ring tone.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately this is still not achieving the desired result. External calls still ring with the Ring 2 tone, which is the one that needs to change.

You can not change ringer 2 for external calls, as this set via template, you would need a custom template to accomplish this.

Custom templates though are not supported so if you do go down this route you will need to know that you will need to manage the system entirely for any issues you may have as 3CX tech support will not be be able to assist you.

Hey @Charles_3CX

Hope it's okay responding to this thread as i don't believe the query differs in the slightest (and this is the top response every which way i google it).

We've recently deployed a v20 solution to a Middle School i work at (still using v18 at the Secondary School) and this is causing a bit of friction for us. Like, they really don't like Ring 2. It's easily the loudest, shrillest of the 6 options on the Fanvil desktop phones.

We're a Middle School and it's really not a nice sound from 4 phones in the reception area. With SEN kids around, it's actually a nightmare tone. I really need to use Tone 1 and 6. This doesn't feel like an advanced feature that would justify an enterprise license upgrade.

If i went the "custom template" route, would it simply be a case of reverting to default templates if we needed support or do you outright permanently deny support to users who have done this? Honestly, the former would seem a reasonable expectation (i.e. - revert it to supported configuration before seeking support).

Appreciate your advice on this. It may not seem important to 3CX, but ringtone options are an accessibility feature, not an inconsequential fashion option.
