Hey everyone,

When user's direct dial an extension from the IVR, is it possible to use a predefined phone number rather than the number of the calling party? I've dug around in the interface but nothing has jumped out at me.

Why would you want that? What's the goal/use-case?

You can append a RG, Queue or Inbound Rule name to the Caller ID if needed.

If I'm not wrong, You are trying to make speed dial from an extension to external calls.
If Yes, you can do make this through an Outbound rule.

@pdreyer

Could you please first clarify exactly what you are trying to achieve? Are you saying that you want the caller id to show up as something specific to the 3CX user whenever a caller goes through the IVR's direct dial feature?

If yes, as Frederick asked, what is the end goal/use-case? Is it for the 3CX user to know if the caller dialed him/her directly? We might be able to provide you with a different workaround if we know exactly why you're trying to do.

Thanks so much for your replies. I'm setting up an IVR so everyone at my company can give their extension number out to clients. Anyone who doesn't have an IP phone at their desk forwards their calls to their personal cellphones. I've had several request that the calls come from a single phone number so that they can add it to their contacts and always know when an incoming call is work related.

Why not use the mobile app?

Using the mobile client like Frederick mentioned would probably be the simplest solution here, though, if for any reason you do not want to do that, you could do what Cal4care mentioned which is utilize the Outbound Rules.

You could for instance have an Outbound Rule match all calls to your 3CX users mobile numbers and then have that same Outbound Rule define the Caller ID. Whether this will work depends on a number of things such as what Outbound Parameters you have set under your SIP Trunk, what SIP Provider you are using and what they support and possibly, how you are forwarding the call outward.
