Short-code to internal extension

Long story short: In the past we had a **80 shortcut dial on our legacy PBX to call a specific branch.

Later on, when we converted to 3CX with Bridges, I used **80 as a prepend in my Outbound Rules to lead the call to the SIP-trunk of a Bridged 3CX. Since that branch is collapsed and the person now "handling" the work of what used to be **80 I want to pass the **80 code to an internal extension.

Is there any way in 3CX how I can use that old dial-code as an "alias" for an internal extension ?

In V20 I don't have the menu that allows me to activate the fqdn domain for Direct SIP CALLS?

set the SIP ID on your ext as **80

While I appreciate that as "creative workaround" I don't see that as a solution, since that internal extension is a Queue, so it has no SIP ID.

Any other way ?

tbf you didnt specify that it was a queue.

set up a dummy extension that forwards to the queue.

that will work, good thinking. I have to see if Direct SIP calling will not have any other impact (as there might be current SIP ID's which collide with other numbers) but I'll see.

There is no way to create aliases / short-dial codes in any other way, right ?

You should generally avoid such dial codes when dialling, as the * codes are generally used to trigger system operations.



It may be best just to educate the users to use a specific extension for example.

Well, yeah - but that is not really an answer. Besides, I've been using those codes since 3CX V9 or V10, so I guess it is OK

But suppose I would want a dial-code other than ** as an alias for an internal extension. Is there any other way than "hacking" with Direct SIP calls?

You could try to implement this with a DTMF call script.

Then you could just use the dual code and change the destination easily by just modifying the code.

Or build a small CFD app with a single transfer code block and give the app the dial code **80.
