SIP Expiration Grace Period

I have found that setting the parameters for the ExpirationGracePeriod keeps the sip client around for the amount of time that is set in this parameter after the normal 30 minutes. However if a call is placed to the sip client during this period of time the call fails and the activity log show server error. Can anyone explain what might be happening?
