SMS Functionality with 3CX Line

Hello,

I have a client utilizing 3CX and was wondering if I could implement SMS transport over one of our numbers we recently had ported through Flowroute for the client and how texting would be implemented for that line and its subsequent extensions through 3CX. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

SMS is not available in 3CX, yet.

You need something 3rd-party that uses the Flowroute SMS API, if they have one (most providers do).

At this point SMS would be handled outside of 3CX. I'm assuming flowroute would handle it the same way we do. We route SMS via email or a separate app independent from 3CX.

The latest news I heard was that 3CX has SMS on their radar but that we probably won't see anything from 3CX for at least a year. The rumor is that they will use a global carrier rather than a templated approach like we do with SIP trunks. I'm not sure how that would work if you want to text from your main phone number. Again, this is all semi-rumor so hopefully, someone from 3CX can offer more official guidance regarding their plans. I did a little prototype work on this a year or more ago but as soon as I heard 3CX was planning to release something I put our project on hold. It didn't make sense for us to invest in a tool if 3CX is going to add it natively into the 3CX web client.
