I have Snom D717 phone and when I place a call on HOLD, I get a dial tone as if I had pressed the TRANSFER button.

The worse part is, if I place a call on hold, place another call, and hang-up the second call, a transfer occurs and my first call is connected to my second call.

In other words, I never pressed the TRANSFER button, only the HOLD button, and yet my first call was connected to my second call.

that is normal as snom performs a transfer on hangup if you have 2 parties connected to the device (both on hold or one in hold and one connected)

How would I change that?

What's the point of having a HOLD button if it does the same thing as the TRANSFER button?

it is for the user and you might start an Attendant transfer whereby the transfer button makes only a blind transfer to someone else. So there is a diff between both. Dif you know you can press the transfer button twice... (snom user guide.=

You effectively gave a perfect explanation for how to perform an attended transfer.

So, the correct way to use the phone to achieve your goal is the following:

1) For hold, just press HOLD. You will hear the tone but that is normal for the Snom phones

2) When you make a second call and want to end it and return to the first call, don't hang up. Just press the X button. Now you ended call 2, and you will have the option to retrieve call 1 back

I didn't realize pressing X would have a different behaviour than just hanging up, thank you.

Unfortunately, I think that is a nuance that will escape my users.

I found the following settings to "fix" this for me.

<cw_dialtone perm="">off</cw_dialtone>
<transfer_on_hangup perm="">off</transfer_on_hangup>
<transfer_on_hangup_non_pots perm="">off</transfer_on_hangup_non_pots>
