Having issues logging in via the webclient due to the R3 Lets Encrypt 'xxxxxx.3cx.co.uk' certificate not renewing automatically.

License page is showing error 'Unable to reach 3CX License Activation Server. Confirm that your Primary DNS Server is able to resolve activation.3cx.com"

When I do nslookup activation.3cx.com it tells me 'can't find activation.3cx.com: Non-existent domain'

I have also tried to run nslookup at 3 other sites all with different internet providers and non of them can find the domain.

Server has been rebooted several times to no avail.

Is there a general issue affecting 3CXs license servers or am I missing something?

Running Windows on premise 3CX v16.0.8.9

Thanks

Lee

You need to upgrade to ver 18 , as 3CX have changed the activation servers.

Before you upgrade check to see if your windows operating system is supported - https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/phone-system-installation-windows/

Upgrade instructions -https://www.3cx.com/docs/upgrading-pbx/#:~:text=%20How%20to%20upgrade%20to%20v18%20%201,Take%20a%20full%20backup%20configuration%20%28incl.%20More%20

Oh really! Won't 16.0.8.16 solve the issue either?

It also appears that someone in their wisdom at the clients end has upgraded to Windows 11 on the 3CX server - I can see this isn't supported yet on v18. Has anyone had any issues with Windows 11 & V18?

Thanks for your help.

16.0.8.16 should solve this but if you cannot upgrade to it via the 3Cx Management Console >> Updates section and need to take a backup, uninstall, re-install and restore, you might as well go straight to 3CX v18 directly.

Windows 11 is indeed not supported yet but if you don't have any issues with the clients you can keep using it. It probably will be supported eventually so it would be a matter of time.

we recently have this on many old installs, lot of them are in v16.0.8.9 (some in 15.5 because in v15 there was queues in standard licence).
oftenly an apt-get update then upgrade via ssh solve this, maybe its the solution if you don't go v18 but anyways 3cx is kind of forcing everyone to go v18 wich is quite understandable from their point of view.

for distributors like us, as it take more times to manage updates, I think only way is to raise support contract a little bit.
still the most painful was the forcing change on webclient when going from v16 to v18 because users have to change something in their tools and the way they work, means you have to explain and help them once again to discover new windows app (it explains all the reactions on the forum when 3cx decided this)

These commands will not work this user, running windows

oups, sorry! I always think peoples use debian probably because I don't see the point of using Windows.

16.0.8.16 was available via the updates page so I chose to do that short term and it did indeed resolve the issue.

Thanks

Brilliant! Glad to see you got it sorted!

Just a reminder, v16.0.8.16 will only be able to activate until November 2022 so you should plan upgrading to v18 before that.
