T42U configured by dial out fails with Emergency Calls Only shown

Version 20.0 Update 7 (Build 1080 Release) self hosted on premises
Phones are T42U Firmware 108.87.0.16

We have a pair of these purchased refurbished. Both configure but weirdly with Outbound Proxy set to enabled and populated with an IP belonging to another company.
I can manually disable this from the Device Web Console once configured and the phone then registers but... I cannot dial out.

Am I missing something or are these phones somehow firmware locked to their previous owners?

I recommend you factory reset the phones, then re-provision them. If they still have old settings you need the phones removed from Yealink RPS.

Hi and thanks for the input. Sadly phones have been factory reset more than once and it is claimed they have been removed from RPS already. How can I check the RPS status?

You need to go to https://ticket.yealink.com and open an RPS removal ticket with Yealink.

Typically, if the phone is still on an RPS server, you will find the provisioning URL in the phone GUI prepopulated.

Ok here we go, the Yealink ticket system is a waste of time if you are not already registered as a partner or whatever. It will let you create a personal account but it will then autoclose any ticket you create, The Artificial Idiot (AI) chatbot won't connect you to a human . Went back to our supplier who ran them both through the yealink RPS system again and the SN and MAC both came back as not registered.

Suggestion was to put the T42U into recovery mode by pulling the power, holding down the speaker key and waiting for the prompt on screen do you want to boot into recovery mode or some such. options were 1, yes 2, no. Pressed 1 and it rebooted, took a lot longer and it looks like it dropped to an onboard recovery firmware. 3CX picked it up and once assigned to a user it offered me the Upgrade. So far so good I can dial out from both phones now. I am about to pull the full config off one of them to see if the previously set accounts 2 - 12 with the Enable Outbound Proxy set are gone. Will let you know.

Pulled the config, seems to have cleared all the dud accounts this time, the press and hold OK factory reset did not do this and I was also still seeing the dud accounts RPS requests hitting 3CX which also seems to have gone. It would seem the previous owners did something to the firmware is best guess and put a hard coded provisioning URL into it that standard factory reset via either the Web Console or the OK buttone would not remove. Recovery mode to a previous factory firmware seems to have cured this. I will monitor to be certain but I am hoping this has cured the problem.

You should be able to "add phone" to an extension, see the RPS successful message in event log, factory reset and auto provision - thats when you know its job done.

I might suggest that using refurbished items, while maybe saving on the purchase price, is still more trouble than it's worth...
