Terminal not working

Hi,
3CX 18.0 Update 1, Linux onsite server.
Host computer is Windows 10 Pro Enterprise.

In the 3CX managment console, clicking the Terminal button

opens a new tab in the browser (Google Chrome Version 96.0.4664.45 (Official Build) (64-bit)) with address,

The new tab shows a blank empty black window.

On the same computer, I can open a cmd console and use SSH to login to the 3CX server.
This is not a new problem. The terminal did work at one time. I have had the problem for over a year, but decided to ask for help today.

Why HTTPS if using IP? Use HTTP for local access. HTTPS works best using the FQDN. The terminal might not work because of that.

Terminal only works with Debian versions ?

3CX is running on a dedicated in house computer running Debian 4.19.208-1. 3CX. It is not VM or Windows.

The computer at my desk is Windows. Both computers are on my local LAN. I can SSH and login into 3CX from my local Windows computer. But when I click on Terminal all I get is a black blank tab.

More: I also have an Ubuntu 18.04 LTS computer at my desk. I opened Firefox and logged into 3CX. When I click the 3CX Terminal button, Firefox opens another tab and I am shown '3CX phone system terminal v1.0' screen. This is what I am expecting to see on my Windows.

Why would my windows computer have a blank tab and my ubuntu computer work as expected?

I do think it is weird that the 'https' part of the address is red and crossed thru. I can open a new tab and type the address manually but I get the same result. I would have expected to receive a browser message saying 'you are about to enter a unsecured page...' (or something like that), but I don't get that message on my windows computer.

I did get the warning message on my ubuntu computer. On the Ubuntu computer, after selecting 'proceed at your own risk' then I was shown the 3CX console as expected.

Check F12 / Developer Tools for any errors when opening the terminal.

I am not familiar with troubleshooting webpages. I have seen that F12 window before but only by accidently pressing F12. Here screen snippet from pressing F12. I don't know what the message means but failed can't be good.

How do you access the 3CX Management page?

1. https://some-name.example.com:5001
2. https://192.168.1.2:5001

If you are accessing as #2, switch to #1. Then see if the terminal page works.

He's using #2 so he should try #1. The WSS connection failing tells me it's an SSL issue.

I tried #1 but same result. Black terminal window. Pressing F12 gives same error but the 192.168.. is replaced with 'wss://my-server-name.com:5001/api/console'

Do you still get the "not secure" warning in your browser address bar when you visit the page my-server-name.com:5001?

wss is web socket secure protocol (similar to https).

WebSocket Secure, it's like HTTPS for WebSockets (constant connection between server and client.)

@VasilisV_3CX @NickD_3CX I think you'll wanna check that one further.

Are you using a custom FQDN? If so, your certificate is either not working or expired.

If it's a 3CX FQDN, then the Let's Encrypt should've taken care of that.

Until the SSL cert is fixed, the terminal won't work (because the secure connection can't happen and terminal is over wss not ws)

you can "ignore" a https error in your browser - which is how you can get to the management page - but ignoring a wss error is far harder then clicking "continue to insecure page".

Are you using a custom FQDN?
I'm not sure. I handle installing the phones, creating the extensions... I don't handle the external network settings.
3CX - Network - FQDN - Fully Qualified Domain Name - has an entry which is grayed out. It is not the same domain name as our local domain. It is not the same as what I use for #1 address to access the 3CX server.

Let's Encrypt.
I don't know what that is.

My IT department, who takes care of the 3CX external network setting, says 'we are using my-domain-name.com domain cert and the cert inside 3CX doesn't match...'

So how do I get the 3CX cert and import/install it into my browser so the browser will stop complaining and terminal will work?

Try visiting this url instead as that's the URL that 3CX is expecting you to use and that's likely the URL in the SSL cert.

Don't forget to do :5001 at the end and https:// in the front.

I was curious so I tested and indeed it does terminal over ws that way instead of wss.
