We have inherited a client with an existing 3cx implementation. They have a local Linux server and we have admin access to the pbx but we do not have access to the account at 3cx that the system is registered/licensed to. We don't see any reason to change the FQDN at this time. I believe that this system has one of your more basic licenses since we cannot change the smtp server. The license information says that this is a "standard Annual" product and the former manager is listed as "my Partner" with an option to unlink. I'm ready to set up a new 3cx account in our customer's name but what would the process be after that? I had to select our system in order to post this question but I'm asking about a system that is not currently in our inventory.

I'd just buy a new licence and put them on Pro since Standard is discontinued in favor of StartUP.

Otherwise, you'll need to find the email for the 3CX Portal account (usually going to Settings > License will show it.)

You may choose to purchase a new license as advised above, or you could have the customer unlink themselves from the former manager and contact 3CX to assist with changing the registration email (with proof of ownership) and you can go ahead with upgrading and managing the system.

Thanks for the info. I'm a bit unclear as to what license we currently have, based on the feature matrix, we appear to be on startup pro already since I have ring groups but no option to change the smtp server. When they say that it's good for 10 users but 20 extensions, can that license be applied to more than 10 people for an additional charge or would i have to go to the pro version? they are right at that 10 user limit. I do see the unlink option and I know the email address of the former partner, and i assume that the customer has been paying for the license and their receipts should be proof enough.

Hello@beaconwnichols,

In regards to the license ownership, for clarity and the best practice, please ask the customer to contact our customer service team directly at [email protected], as there are different aspects that should be considered.

In regards to the number of users:
  • The StartUP - Trial is limited to 10 users, and in the PRO edition, it can be upgraded to 20 users at any time if required.
  • Hosted by 3CX dedicated - the number of users is limited according to the instances used. Here is our Hosted Info for your consideration.
  • Dedicated self-hosted systems - PRO or Enterprise subscriptions do not have a limit for the number of users.
I hope that the above clarifies some of the mentioned points.

Best regards,
Irina
