Solved Unable to reach Activation Server, but nslookup from 3CX terminal can

Hello, Having a weird issue where I am not able to activate a 3CX install. Keep getting the message: "Unable to reach 3CX License Activation Server. Confirm that your Primary DNS Server is able to resolve activation.3cx.com". When I click terminal on the 3CX dashboard and run nslookup activation.3cx.com its able to resolve.

I don't know what's going on!

Change the dns servers on the machine to google 8.8.8.8

Use the search function , you will see the same question and resolution

Networking 101... resolving DNS and actually being able to reach something is two different things. So if DNS resolution is working, then the next step is to figure out if something between 3CX and the internet might be interfering with traffic. Assuming DNS is resolving properly (@Saqqara's suggestion often works) then the next step is to figure out if there is something 'smart' between 3CX and the internet. Anything that can do content filtering/proxying/DPI can cause problems.

Just to add a little something, as the message says, it's important that it is the Primary DNS server of the host that must be able to resolve the FQDN so make sure that it is that one you set to Google's DNS (8.8.8.8) and not the secondary!

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, it was the fact that the Primary was set to the cloud provider's gateway and not a public dns, secondary was though. Setting Primary to 8.8.8.8 resolved it. I just figured 3CX would use secondary if Primary couldn't resolve. The server is hosted with iLand and pretty locked down, so I didn't initially have access to the resolv.conf
