We have a foreign customer using and rPi 4 as a 3cx SBC v16 and we'd like to upgrade it to v18 (incl debian upgrade).

Knowing that doing so remotely is not a good idea, I wonder whether I could use our lab's rPi 3 in our lab to perform a clean install w/ a v18-image and send the SDcard out to the customer. I'd configure the 3cx part remotely via SSH. Would this be feasible, i.e. are the Debian configurations on rPi3 and rPi4 the same ?

interresting question, I'm also curious on answer as it could help me if it's doable

Hi,

If you want to do what you said, do it on the same model as the one the customer uses just to be on the safe side of things.

Unofficially I have tested using Pi3B+ based SD card in a Pi 4 and I can confirm it is bootable but with some caveats. I noticed some errors popping here and there but have not followed up on them so I cannot say with any confidence that this would be a good idea.

Did you know that you can currently still upgrade the 3CX SBC application even if you keep Debian 9 on the Pi? That's because we currently maintain a Debian 9 and a Debian 10 Pi version of the SBC. You can do this for now until you get a chance to equip yourself with a Pi 4 and then do a proper upgrade.
