Thanks for your help florink. It sounds like I've got no choice but to risk it. I just hope my phones (Cisco SPA525G) are still compatible.

Follow the upgrade path to completion, the SPA525G are compatible as long as you're on the correct firmware version.

Thank you for your help florink. Seems like I don't have a choice but to try.

Seems like 3CX are on to a money maker here to force people to upgrade by switching off their activation server.

So basically it sounds like you tried to upgrade to v12.5SP2 and then stopped. I don't see that anywhere in the instructions. Your upgrade path is more difficult because you decided to stay on v12.5 for whatever reason. It may have been a business decision due to needing a certain feature but that is the risk you take when you decide to upgrade/not upgrade. As it stands now you merely need to follow the instructions and step upgrade all the way to v15.5. Once there your current license key will work.

I upgraded to v12 SP2 using the in-built upgrade section in v12, then once that finished installing it reverted to the free version. I tried putting in my key and it wouldn't work. I didn't continue upgrading to v14 and v15 as it seemed like something had gone already as it had lost my key. That's when I tried getting the free support that was offered.

If they had just told me this morning when I first contacted them all that I need to do is keep on with the upgrades then put my license key in again I would have continued with that, but as you can see from the earlier posts they haven't said that's what to do. There is still no official reply from them telling me the next step, I can only go by what you guys have suggested.

I'm having to wait until 9:30 when our phone line closes, as at the moment we have at least one line. Once it closes I will try upgrading and hope that this works.

I'll let you know how I get on.

So you keep talking about free support but I don't see there anywhere in the email, or at least the part you posted. I know in the email I received (as a partner) there is mention of 3CX offering support but that required contacting them beforehand.

I've upgraded to v15. Took a while as logs needed conversion. So far so good. Will need to check tomorrow once we start receiving calls again. Thank you for your help guys.

FYI in regards to the certificates, a lot has gone on in the last few years with what is bad, acceptable and best practise. So their configuration which was set on the earlier versions are likely no longer secure and needed to be updated, and this is the update.
So rather than leaving systems exposed to a security risk that has come up (affecting every vendor that uses SSL) they have given a free path to upgrade and stay safe and secure.
Keep in mind free doesn't mean priority 1, SLA'd support, if you need that then you should seek to purchase a support plan from a 3CX partner.
I'm only just experimenting with 3CX to move to it in the future, and although I plan to do most things myself, i've already short listed a few 3CX partners nearby should I need help that I can't resolve quickly.

Hope you are now back up and running. Always keep backups.

"Upgrade Now - Use our special FREE upgrade and FREE maintenance offer"

Nope, don't see the word support in there anywhere. Here is the full section of the email stating the upgrade is free and that maintenance has been extended and that support MAY be available based on license size pending discussion:

Code:
Upgrade Now - Use our special FREE upgrade and FREE maintenance offer
In order to ease the upgrade process we have decided to give active customers a free upgrade to v15.5. That’s right, there is no charge at all to get their system up to date, secure and with lots of new features. In addition, we have extended their maintenance (if expired) until the 31st October 2018.These are the steps you need to take:
• Step 1: Take a backup of the current configuration.
• Step 2: Install v15.5 and activate the license key (the one that you are currently using).
• Step 3: If you want to migrate configuration data, follow the steps outlined in the manual. In short:
o V11: download V12, V12.5 and V14 then migrate to each version using backup and restore.
o V12: download V12.5 and V14 then migrate to each version using backup and restore.
o V12.5: download V14 then migrate to it using backup and restore.
o V14: Make a backup and then use it during installation of v15.5
o V15: Keep updating from the management console until you have reached v15.5 SP6.
If you don’t have time to do this, depending on the license size, we can perform the conversion for you. Please let us know by replying to this email in order to discuss!

I think you may have just jumped the gun a bit. 3CX doesn't charge nearly enough to provide the kind of support you were expecting. Heck even Cisco which is pretty much the gold standard for support (with SMARTnet) doesn't give anything away for free and you seem to be expecting both. But looks like you got it sorted. Going forward I'd try to not get so far back as you'll find the upgrade experience to be a lot smoother.
