Good Day 3CX Team,
I am reaching out as I have a concern about the latest upgrade for v16. Last time a major version update was released (v15), there was a cutoff point for the automatic upgrades via the web console of the PBX. If the cutoff date was missed, the update would not run successfully via the web console. The update then had to be installed manually on the system running the PBX. There were also some port additions with the last major version release.

I'd like to know if there will be a similar cutoff date with the latest version being released into production and if there are also any major networking changes. This will allow us to coordinate upgrades of the PBX's accordingly. I did have a chance to review the change log (https://www.3cx.com/blog/change-log/phone-system-change-log/). It had some very good information, however, those were my current concerns.

Thanks for your time

My understanding as long the license is a commercial license and has a valid maintenance you can upgrade any time.

The only time you can not upgrade via the web console, is the windows version (major upgrade, i.e. ver 15. to v16) - where you need to backup the current system (move the backup file to a non 3CX folder), uninstall 3CX, reboot system and install 3CX using the backup done in previous step.

The port numbers have stayed the same as ver 15 - https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/firewall-router-configuration/

If you have v15.5 and are on a standard license, part of the installation to v16 is the license is upgrade to Pro license (license needs to be commercial and has a valid maintenance) so you do not lose any functions as V16 functionality have changed with the different versions. I do not know if this will end, question for 3CX.

At the moment the main restriction is that you need to be on V15.5SP6 over Debian 9 which is the last version that can talk to the activation server.

If you run older editions or older Debian distro, then you will have to do things manually.

For Windows it has to be done manually, there will not be an automatic upgrade from V15 to V16 as stated above.

There was no cut-off for the upgrade per se. What happened was the activation server was updated/changed and if you didn't upgrade before that time you had to do it manually due to the SSL changes. As long as you are on v15.5SP6 you should be able to upgrade for the foreseeable future but if it's really a concern, guess what? You should do it sooner rather than later :)

The port changes were also in the service pack, not the version upgrade.
