Hi, hope someone can confirm.
I had a v18 Pro whic was setup with 2 digit extns.
The licence came for renewal so we purchased and applied - all ok.

However we wished to move to 3 digit extns and there is no way to migrate so I did te following...

Created hosted instance ov v20 with 3 digit on the 60 days trial.
recreated all the extns/users and moved trunks over.
Move all the phones and 3cx users over.

All working fine.

I now need to close the old v18 instance and have the licence on the v20.

Is it just a case of shutting down the old v18 and replacing the licence on the v20 with our recently renewed one?
Of course the new v20 is a different FQDN.

Or have I messed up the process?

Thanks.

will 3cx be able to sort the licence key do you recon. We have proof of purchase and of course 3cx can check its only enabled on 1 instance. So Im hoping they can sort things.

FYI there seems to be no way to just buy the hosting whilst in the trial period. I can purchase the whole licence/hosting of course

Trial already includes hosting, but you can renew it to trigger the full license.

I don't know if they can restore it or not.

Removed the reference to the old instance in portal.

@tripleu, the commercial license that you have deleted from your portal is re-enabled and active.
Contact your partner Plexus Installations to help you to add hosting to your subscription.

Let us know how it goes here.
Thank you

I apreciate your help.

One more question if I may.
I decided also to look at using VULTR for hosting. It seems the marketplace image is one out from the backup I have.
I am concerned with 3cx hosting that I cannot get access to the OS and thus have automatic backups offsite for myself.
If I self host then this is easy for me.

Do you know if its possible for the VULTR marketplace to get update for v20?

Thanks

Yes, the marketplace image can be updated to v20. Just make sure to size the VM properly.

Problem is that if you use a backup from hosting as the restore it fails because the base image is slightly out of step.
Once would need to upgraded the image at the os level I assume before doing a restore image unless the marketplace image could be swapped out by 3cx to match the latest release.

It’s been Recomended by partner don’t use hosting hence I thought i would move to vultr first.

What you will need to do is to setup the new Vultr VM with the same license/FQDN, but don't restore the backup. (Same ports and all.)

Then, once that initial setup is done (no need to configure anything), update the system to the latest hotfix.

Finally, simply upload the backup via SSH (or remote storage like SFTP/GoogleCloud) and restore that backup.

It will bring it back as it was.

I assume im best to get the proper licence key on hosting first and then try the above?

You'd be best to ask a partner to assist you.

Indeed, get an assistance from your partner and take it from there.

Hi again. I have created a VPS using the marketplace app for 3cx v20 however when I run the URL (port 5015) given at the end of the install we are presented with 'restore' and 'upload a new configuration file from 3CX. No option to do a new fresh install whch is a bit wierd.

All my partner has confirmed is that we cant use our licence key on hosted but should be ok on self hosted.

Hi there.
Can you maybe explain more here and do you mean by that :
All my partner has confirmed is that we cant use our licence key on hosted but should be ok on self hosted.

You can use www.3cx.com/install to generate an XML file for your license.

I asked the partner Aatrox where we purchased the licence where we should be with the licence.
He said that he had spoken to 3cx and they had told him that our key as we used on v18 could not be used on 3cx hosted.
I would need to build a vps self hosted.

Fine if that’s the case and that’s where I’m trying to get to now.

I know Aatrox. They're good people. Hosted by 3CX does require an addon to your license. Self-hosting is still your best bet if you want full control tho. Let us know if you need assistance.

Im doing the self hosted. Much more control. Im happy in unix.
My login to try and create an xml shows the following and its a PRO in doing:

Being honest the best guy I know moved from alloy to aatrox and is now at Breeze, If I get stuck any more ill be calling him. I am moving my sip trunks over to breeze as I use an unsupported provider at the moment.
I already have 1 trunk at breeze and a DID port is in progress.
Lost my partner status due to low sales.

@tripleu, 3CX works best with supported providers. Aligned with our support procedures, using an unsupported SIP trunk provider limits the assistance from the 3CX support team.
