v20 Installation (Linux VM on Synology NAS) freezes

Hello there,

i try to install the v20 version as the automatic upgrade from v18 didnt work (and i dont know if and how to rescue that one). So i created a new Linux-VM and did install via manual from 3CX Website.

It did go until the screen with "/dev/sda1: clean, 34303/3219456 files, 689340/12856832 blocks".

The numbers were different first, then i let it "run" through the night and as there was still no change, i did force a reboot and now i got these numbers (i think they are lower than yesterday). But still the numbers are not changing


Any ideas?



ps: If someone has some hints how to get v18 back running, please let me know. (it appears to be at least half-uninstalled and i can access console with root as well as the GUI webpage, but i cant login anymore due to "server error")

VGA-Driver was the issue... has to be "vga" not the default one

Unfortunately it did continue to command line interface (root) with no option to do anything like shown in manual. I could only login and then im stuck at command line.

Ive found some cleanup-command (3CXWizard --cleanup) but it doesnt exist.

Hi,
I've run into the same issue, only root command line.

So I did first the update and than the install:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install 3cxpbx -y

Than I got the Wizard and was able to setup all the settings.

Hi there,
just to let you know that this is not something we recommend to do and run the Phonesystem on the server along with other applications as it has to be dedicated.
Additionally, you must not install it manually and use 3CX ISO that have scripts built into the image that guide you through the installation.

OK thanks for the info. I was using a Raspberry Pi for my phonesystem before but if that didn't
change it's not supported anymore. So the easiest way was to use my Synology NAS and there
were installation files to do so and they were current and got updates.

I changed this about a year ago and the phonesystem was running fine for me. But I use my
NAS only for file storage and mediaserver, so of course if it used in many of the other possible
ways I could imagine that there will be issues.


This is only in my private home, so no business solution and there this phonesystem is not that
important for us. If it is not running we use the mobile phones.

About the manual installation, I wanted to go the normal way. But not shure way debian was instlalled
but than I had the issue that I only had the 3CX root command line. There was no wizard starting.
This was the reason why I tryed it that way and than I got the wizard like it should be shown automatically.

Not shure if all is right, but I was able to load my v18 backup and the system seems to run fine...

Hi Stefan.
I am happy to hear you have managed to install it and use it just as a lab, but keep in mind installing and running a system in an unsupported environment could change your experience and opinion of the system (of things not working as they should etc) and this is not something we want, as we work hard to ensure its all working, stability etc. Because of that we always advise going with our guides and what is tested and supported. We offer a lot of free webinars on this matter, where you can learn the platform and upgrade your skills too.

I've got the same problem, then decided to build my VM again from scratch. This time I didn't touch the default suggested hostname (debian?), didn't type in any domain name (default is blank). I can't tell which one of these arguments matters, but guess what? this time everything ran as it should.
