So I installed 3CX for a client of mine, on a VM and the setup comprises mainly of Desktop App installs using USB headphones, but I also have a couple of analog devices (no issue) and a few Yealink DECT devices.
I noticed a few (some rather critical for any VoIP PBX) and I would like to have your feedback on these.
This serves as a bug list, a wish list, or whatever you can take it for.

1) Volume control. Seems 3CX Desktop App, offers NO volume control, for ringer or for communications!
I suspect this stems from the app in reality being a concealed web app, but still, this shouldn't be the users' problem.
There should be some internal control of the volume of the ringer (and even override muted selected output if set to do so) and the headphone.

2) Call control #1. For cases where I have set Desktop App AND an IP Phone (in my case Yealink 70-series DECT devices).
I try to find how to set DEFAULT call control. The Desktop App, allows to select either "Desktop App" or "Smartphone".
This is discrepancy with user setting Call Control to "IP Phone". Doesn't seem to affect anything.

3) Call control #2. For same case. If user has also set (along with Desktop App and DECT), the mobile client, then the Deskop App allows to select (but as I said above, not default to) "smartphone".
If I select smartphone and make a call using the Desktop App, then the call is transfered correctly also to mobile app AND DECT IP Phone.
I actually welcome that bug, as I can see no (working) option to actually set call control to IP Phone for real.
For people that have no mobile app set, I get no "smartphone" option in Desktop App, so I cannot set it to actually transfer call control to IP Phone. Very serious issue.

4) Call control #3. Would prefer more intelligent call control. If we set call control from smartphone, there is no option for video call, although mobile app DOES allow video calls and even if there wasn't (or for IP Phone), it should allow and either notify the user that that call cannot be transfered to IP Phone maybe.

5) There is no modern feature set for handling contacts in Desktop App. We cannot allow user to make new custom groups, we cannot eliminate unused system groups (like Office 365, if we don't use that) and so on.

6) We are supposed to be able to make call groups or transfer to ring groups (am I right?). How do we do that if they don't show in our contact list? Even Digital Receptionists should be visible (if required). Only if we set a custom "button" can we do that?

7) We should be able to set what is click on contact default action. Some people are "chat heavy" and prefer it to calls whenever they can. We should be able to set "chat" as default action (or any of the possible actions actually).

That is all for now. Would appreciate any help on any and all of the above.

(note, this is not about the system I selected - I have a separate account for that system, but I prefer to post using this older account, to have everything in one place - not sure if we can handle this differently)

We have recently rolled our 3CX in our school
We are also seeing issues with the desktop app.

1. No volume control
2. Call control - Some of our users have Yealink T46U handsets alongside using the desktop app. The desktop app appears to default call control to the IP phone. In our environment i need everyone's default to be set to desktop app and they can choose to change it if they wish. People have already raised the issue that their IP phone initiates the call even if they are not in the room. This means the callee may overhear unintended private conversations that are happening in the same room as the IP phone. (Not good in a school)

I have ensured call control preferences are set to softphone in each user's extension information. I can see the client config.json change "UseCTI": to True or False but the desktop app doesn't seem to honour the setting. I know the app and phone no longer use CTI but CSTA instead but i have thought it would still honour the default device setting from the management console

This issue also appears in the web client.

Then the partner is doing it wrong. It should be linked to your email.

The issue is not that though. His post was a reply to mine, which is the actual topic here.
Could you help with that?

Volume control
This comes up from time to time here. The desktop app is an encapsulated web page. The browser tells Windows to play the sound. I don't think there's a way to get around that unless maybe 3CX wants to offer multiple sound files with differing volumes...?

make call groups or transfer to ring groups
In the management console, Settings/Apps/Options there is a checkbox "Hide System Extensions (IVR, RingGroup, Queues and FAX) from 3CX Apps Company Phonebook."

Will check that setting, thanks.

Yes it can be done even for web pages. I think 3CX hasn't given a serious look to this.
How does YouTube and such web pages regulate their own volume? It CAN be done.

#1 You can use the controls in Windows to affect the app volume independently from the other apps/os but it's one control for the entire app. This seems like a feature request for your partner to evaluate and submit.
#2 I haven't seen a way to set default, although it seems to remember the last choice on the same PC. You could also try setting this box which does work for the old Windows App. This seems like a feature request for your partner to evaluate and submit.

#3 DECT is not the same as IP Phone - DECT doesn't support uaCSTA like IP Phone does. Neither does smartphone app. When you set smartphone 3CX sends a SIP invite, which the DECT device can pick up on at the same time (look up SIP forking). So this bug, which I also have clients using as a feature, is working as intended. Having DECT devices show up is a good idea - you should have your partner submit this (I might do it myself because I agree with this one very much).
#4 Same reason - no uaCSTA support, so very limited features available. Video option showing up only works when set to DesktopApp no matter what endpoint is connected to the extension at this time. This seems like a feature request for your partner to evaluate and submit.
#5 User or Admins? Many permissions can be delegated, depending on what you are trying to do and how. Sometimes I find it's better for clients to use 365 sync and manage contacts outside of 3CX.
#6 You can use a BLF type of custom speed dial with the name and DR / RG / CQ / whatever number that you want
#7 This seems like a feature request for your partner to evaluate and submit.

Thanks for your reply.
1. No go. It doesn't show in audio mixer. A few times (possibly depends on other factors) it shows up on some PC, but cannot be modified. 3CX app needs volume control of its own.
2. Remembering the last choice is good enough, but I am not sure it works that way even.
3. DECT should be the same as IP Phone as the base is registering SIP accounts normally. The transport between the base and the actual DECT phones, should be irrelevant.
Also I see this in my DECT base settings:

I wonder if it would make any difference to play with those (if 3CX itself doesn't know).
4. OK.
5. Both. Users and/or admins.
6. I know, I considered that.
7. OK. Seems like many are for the partner, so will point him to this thread.

Yeah I was realizing that after I posted.

re: mixer, generate some sort of sound...if I press a key button in the dialer window it shows up:

However since the ringing is not separate that control may also affect call volume.

1. That's addressed above (make the app generate sound and it should show up), but I agree an integrated one is needed.
2. My testing shows it is remembered, but you should test.
3. To be clear, I'm just reporting what 3CX does out of the box. You could modify the device or use custom templates, also enable that User Agent in the 3CX CTSA parameter, and maybe get it working. But that would be unsupported by 3CX and can have unforeseen issues. Your system, your call.
5. You'll have to look at the admin/management console access permissions and see if you can find a setting or 2 that fits your needs then. Otherwise you'll need a feature request.

As you noted, many of the items you posted are enhancements to existing functionality, so I can't really give you any direction except advising the ideas forum.
