VPN or SBC for 2 location setup?

The scenario I have is a main office and a remote office. The PBX is hosted in Azure where the main office is, and there is an SBC running on Rasberry Pi. The remote office is on another phone system, but I now want to bring them on 3CX as well. My goal is to have it setup so that they can dial between the two offices with the extension, giving free calls. The remote location is in another country.I planned on using 2 SIP trunks but from the same provider, so E911 can be handled properly.

I came up with 2 possible scenarios, but what is the best way to do this?
Scenario 1: Head office has the SBC, remote office has the SBC
Scenario 2: Head office has VPN to Azure and remote office, and remote office has VPN to azure and head office
Scenario 3: Scenario 1 and 2 will not work, there is some other option.

Main office
1GB Fiber
Networking equipment with vlan, qos support, etc

Remote office
25MB Fiber
Networking equipment with vlan, qos support, etc

So I'm confused. You already have a setup with the SBC at one location, but you are unsure if it will work with two locations? Do you have problems with your current setup? If not, why change?

Best is a relative term so you are going to get many answers. But the simplest would be cost. SBC doesn't have a recurring cost where as VPN to Azure does.

Hi cobaltit. Good call on the VPN cost. Current setup with the main office to azure is fine. I was not sure if this other location needed to have its own PBX, because of it being in another country and distance situation.

Also I didn't know about the benefit of doing a site to site vpn. We would not introduce want, as we do not need it, unless 3cx would perform better.

Gotcha. Generally cloud providers have good connectivity to other countries so you should be ok. The main benefit of VPN or SBC is you can provision the phones a Local LAN which is good for legacy/unsupported phones. There's also one less piece to fail (SBC). What do the ping times from your other location to your current instance look like?

Hello. The plan is Yealink supported devices only. Ping times are 175-200ms to other location. To the Azure host its about 45-75ms.

I have no problem setting up site to sites between all. The key is, if I have one Azure 3cx servers for both locations, I assume I have to get 2 diff tunnels because of E911? Anything else I am missing?
