Ok so we can call out and call other extensions, BUT incoming drops and the caller gets silence occasionally.

I get calls from staff who either get a call on their personal cell phone or they finally call in and they get through, with a caller letting them know that when they call in they hear silence, or very rarely a "service is busy" response etc.

I am alerted and I call in and get the same results.

interestingly enough, the calls are hitting the system and even though there is silence, it upon the caller hanging up prompts a missed call or vmail email that has no recording.

Incoming rule points the call to the receptionist extension, then if busy or no answer in a few seconds, it goes to the receptionist wireless system phone, then if not answered in a few seconds it goes to a group of 3 ext in a queue...these calls do not make it that far.

The system started this 2-3 weeks ago. all updates and system reboots have been done (windows 10 machine, dell PowerEdge server, NOT a VM - straight install.).

What fixes it temporarily is (usually for the rest or the day or 2-3 times a day) is restarting the services or the SIP service (the provider shows registration and in 3cx is will show the main inbound SIP is not, sometimes others, but mainly the main shows unregistered and I restart that service and in 2-5 min it's back up.
The SIP registration feedback between both the provider and the 3CX server are usually always reporting the same almost instantly...so never seen in the past the Service provider showing the registration with a green light and in 3cx any SIP connection showing a red light, un-registered.

This has come out of the blue...

The only other thing that has happened for a while, is that when I happen to have a reason to restart the server, all or some of the 3CX service do not start and I have to manually start even though they all are set to auto start...

here you go:

  • 3CX Version, - Enterprise Annual 16.0.389
  • Server OS, Windows 10 Enterprise 64bit
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? Onsite, Hardmetal, not a VM
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware - Grandstream GXP1782 MW 1.0.1.98
  • Provisioning Method: Local / VPN / STUN / SBC - Local
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model Sip Provider, Call Centric - Comcast Connectivity passed through a TZ500 Sonicwall
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES / NO YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: YES / NO NO

Check to see what the Activity Log shows when one of the "no audio" calls happen. Try running the Firewall Checker, when you've had an issue, but before restarting the services, to see if it all still passes.
My first suspect would be the firewall.

Hi BPBCIT

I must agree with @leejor on this one especially due to the fact that restarting the services fixes it temporarily.

The audio ports start climbing higher as calls come and go, and I would at least initially suspect that when you hit the higher ports of the range you lose audio due to your firewall. Restarting services makes the PBX start on the lower range and it seems those ports work correctly.

This guide here may be of help:
https://www.3cx.com/docs/sonicwall-firewall-configuration/
https://www.3cx.com/docs/ports/ (especially whole RTP range)

However, I'm also a bit wary of the fact that not all your services start when you power up the server. This could be due to the machine being too slow (one possibility) or due to the fact that there are other things running on the server. We recommend that you install only the OS+3CX and nothing else at all on that machine, it should be dedicated to your PBX.
