Hi, this is a new one to me and I'm curious if anyone else has seen something like it. searching the forum I find 2 other people who have posted about this error message / in the last few years. In both cases the cause was not so clear (ie, fix on one was 'restart all services' and other - I am less clear - they waited patient, tried different browser, etc).
so > Yesterday client reported to me their 3cx (V20 latest auto-update 4sc non-free pro license) was acting weird.
Everyone here (small team - about 8 people in the office) uses only the 3cx app on their iphone
nobody uses a physical desk phone
exception is that the 'meeting room' in the office has a Polycom speakerphone unit on the table, and this is setup in 3cx and works as a vanilla standalone phone (via a 3cx-SBC VM running on a modest server in the office).
everything here is normally boring and good and reliable for >2 years now.
symptoms of "weird" the staff tell me were basically - the 3cx App on their phone no longer shows contacts, other extensions status, and no calls come in or go out
When I went to hit the web admin interface to check status it kept throwing me this weird error along bottom edge of login page,
Web Client Disconnected. Reconnecting in XX seconds
(I forget what the # of seconds was)
But it was quick, repeated, and no progress, I could not login
So > I went and rebooted my VM which is running the 3cx server instance. Note this is one VM instance of about a dozen that I have running on the same physical host. All hosts are identical in their base setup, all have been running smoothly in this config for ~months since they were deployed (this is my 'new hosting setup' for client 3cx VM instances I put in place in the summer, as part of my move to new V20 3cx instances for all my clients). Note this is a 'public' server (OVH Montreal) and it is a standard setup that has worked well (3cx instance with Public IP address, 3cx SBC gateway are running in each client physical office to bridge phone handsets to the 'cloud 3cx server'). None of my other clients were reporting issues with their 3cx instances, and everything looked good on my physical server running all the 3cx VM (ie, no CPU ram traffic spikes, plenty of spare resources all around, etc). No apparent issues were visible at VM_admin_Level for any 3cx instance / including the one that was 'misbehaving'.
After restarting the 3cx VM at my virtualization server level - web admin login onto the 'problem' 3cx instance worked normally. Downtime was <1 minute for this stop-start VM reboot.
Quick review of logs in the 3cx instance gave me no clear hints as to 'arrgh I am so broken" or "help I am drowning here" or anything clear-obvious.
This morning my client confirms she closed and opened 3cx app on her smartphone, and now sees her contacts normally, I can see her listed as 'online' in the 3cx server, and she can see (only) 2 things online in the system currently - herself and the board room polycom. I've directed her to tell all staff - quit 3cx app on iphone, check for updates in app store, and then re-open the app and see if that makes things better.
Looking in the logs for yesterday I can see that basically all the phone calls inbound to their 3cx were routing normally, but not going to end user devices, ie,
Calls came in on SIP Trunk > Hit Auto attendant IVR > caller self routes to EXT# > No device is online to take call, so dumps to VoiceMail
so the 'broken' 3cx sad state yesterday - didn't appear to block inbound call processing, there was just some weird thing happening / web client access was bork / smartphone 3cx app was bork
I'm curious if anyone else has seen this sort of thing recently and has any comments
sorry this is so long a post on what is ? kind of ? a seeming 'simple' topic. It was totally disruptive to their 3cx and since 100% new to me / I wanted to try to clearly lay out the issue here
in case any thoughts/feedback from others
thank you if you read this far,
Tim
