What’s the recommended MAX limit for hosted?

I’m in the middle of pricing up a 3CX from system for a multi academy trust consisting of 15 schools

I am thinking of hosting it with 3CX and each school will have a SBC connected to it

In total there will be around 5000 users and 800 handsets

Is this too much for a hosted instance?

someone told me many years ago I should aim for a PBX for such a setup, I have installed an on premise PBX for a similar sized MAT before and it works great until the schools on-site network technicians fiddle with the network switches

Any advice would be appreciated

32 channel should be more then enough, the MAT i have now has only ever peaked at 18 SC over the past year - I am more concerned about call quality with a hosted system over onpremise PBX

Big like this I would manage it yourself but host it in a cloud provider like AWS or Google. Hosted is great but if you need to upgrade at some point, it's easier. (Hosted stops at 32SC.)

Hardware available on your Host, CPU, Memory, SSD etc.....

I wrote this yesterday but it apparently didn’t post:

5000 users is off the chart of https://www.3cx.com/docs/recommended-hardware-specifications-for-3cx/. Besides calls, the phones/apps/BLF updates all hit the server.

Re: call quality, on premises or hosted, voice is going over the local Internet connection either way. If these schools are in different locations it’s all dependent on Internet anyway.

Edit: thought maybe I should expand a bit...5000 users would normally be around 1600 calls at a 1:3 ratio. 20 calls would be almost no usage, but each usage case is different. Have to find what works but I would not be expecting a "small" spec server to work well with 5000 extensions.
