Windows to Debian

I'm considering the migration. 3CX is running on Server 2008 R2 and I've received notice that some features might not working properly in the future on this version of Windows. Fair enough.

Assuming one follows these steps to a tee;

1. Backup your current 3CX configuration to a safe location outside of your 3CX installation folder.
2. Uninstall the current 3CX PBX version from Windows.
3. Download the latest 3CX Phone System and install in Hyper-V. ( Same host as current VM )
4. Select the backup file to restore during configuration.

Will the phones automatically find the new IP address or do they need to be re-provisioned?

Any post-cleanup steps after the restore?

v16 update 5 introduces http/2 support for Apple which is included from Win 10, Server 2016 and later.

Your instructions mention nothing about Debian.

Perform a full backup of your 3CX.

Turn off 3CX VM.

Build new VM using this ISO https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/installing-debian-linux-pbx/

Pay attention to hyperv requirements https://www.3cx.com/docs/installing-microsoft-hyper-v/

Give it the same IP as the one you turned off so you dont have to re-provision.

Run through the installer and restore your backup.

That pretty much answers my question.

You'd only need to re provision if the IP address changes.

With the newer versions of 3CX you may find you have to push out new phone templates/FW so re-provisioning them is unavoidable but they'll still be managed via console. They re-provision automatically daily anyway.

Good description by @kieferschild I would just add that once you are finished and it's all up and running, you should go and setup your backups again if you use automatic backup.
