I am trying to setup a zoom ATA 5801 with 3CX.

I have tried setting up a generic PSTN gateway and entered the details for the sip trunk on the zoom but if doesn't appear to have registered on 3CX.

Has anybody had any success with this device?

I've seen a few posts stating that they have had it working, but no details on how they managed to do it.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,

Regarding unsupported devices, you will have to manually configure them yourself but with no guarantees that is it will perform as intended.

If you want to use it as an ATA, you can simply take the details* from an extension and attempt to register it directly by entering those details in your ATA UI settings (usually under accounts).

* = You will need the Auth ID, Password, and extension number.

Thanks I’ll give that a go and report back on my findings

the extension is now showing registered on 3CX so have got somewhere now!

I’ve not got any further as in regards if call the extension connected to the ATA it rings twice then says the end destination cannot be reached, contact administrator.

which I can understand in a fashion as there’s a forwarding rule to end call if unanswered.

it seems like I need to concentrate on the zoom end of things as when plug a analogue phone into the ATA there’s no dialling tone, and when plug landline into the ATA and ring it the Telco light doesn’t light up to indicate a call coming in.

I don’t see what assistance can come here as it’s a non 3CX issue now

An ATA is not designed to be plugged into a PSTN land line, You'll need an FXO gateway for that. An ATA (FXS) provides 48 volts and ringing generator, to a phone, just like a PSTN phone line, you could very easily damage the ATA connecting it with a PSTN line.

if call the extension connected to the ATA it rings twice then says the end destination cannot be reached, contact administrator.

Is this a hosted 3Cx, or is everything on the local LAN? If hosted, it may be a STUN issue.

This particular ATA has two connectors on the back, one for a telephone and one for a landline with the facility to bridge calls between VoIP and PSTN. It comes supplied with a lead to connect into the PSTN.

Everything is hosted locally on the LAN,

I’m thinking it might be an issue with the cables connecting to the ATA possibly as would at least expect dialling tone on the phone.

Given that the extension is registered on 3CX and it can be dialled but the ATA doesn’t respond to it that 3CX isn’t where the issue lies I need to concentrate more on the ATA and seek information off forums for that as well now.

Did a search on the Zoom device, as it turns out , it is very similar to one that Grandstream made several years ago. It does have an ATA (FXS port), but no FXO. The dialplan of the Zoom will determine whether a call will route out over the VoIP connection, or the PSTN line. There are obviously a number of options, within the Zoom, that will need to be configured correctly.

From that link it gives impression it has a FXO and a FXS port. I agree about setting up a dial plan. My intention is for all incoming calls on the PSTN to be routed onto the extension the 5801 is registered to on 3CX which will be forwarded to a ring group.

I’m thinking now that maybe that isn’t possible

I may very well may be wrong about the device, and perhaps it is indeed, the same as a Linksys SPA-3102, but not having used one, I can't be certain. If it were, there would be two complete separate sections, to set the registration parameters.

Perhaps there are various versions, but this suggests that there are simply "bridging " options between the phone and the PSTN line.

I have seen one listed on eBay which says it is a spa3102 competitor so you could be right. I do think the bridging option is what’s needed but it didn’t seem to work when I tried that option

If it only allows "bridging" , then it probably won't sent incoming PSTN calls to 3CX as a trunk, only to the phone plugged into the FXS port. I don't have a copy of the manual, so I'm unable to help.

Thanks for all your assistance. I’m still thinking the issue is partly down to the lead supplied to plug in to the PSTN. I’m in the UK. I suspect that maybe it uses a different standard on the RJ11 connector. I thought it was a international standard but now I’m beginning to doubt that and need to research that as well

Usually, the first, or only line, on an RJ11 uses on the middle two contacts. You might want to check your cord.

That’s what I thought as well. I’ll check the cable I have when I get home.

My understanding, is that on the RJ11, the centre two pins being 3 & 4, the cable should have them connected to pins 2 & 5 of the standard BT plug ( BS 6312) . Apparently, in the UK, this type of cord is commonly used for (dial-up) modems.

I think I’ve made a breakthrough, it looks like the lead I have that came with the 5801 connects pins 2&5 on the 431A plug (plugs into the line jack) to pins 2 and 5 on the 5801.
I’m guessing if get a RJ11 to RJ11 that connects pins 2 and 5 to pins 3 and 4 on the other end and a 431A to RJ11 with pins 2 and 5 on the 431A to 3 and 4 on the RJ11 I think will be able to get somewhere.

It’s never going to work with the current cables. There are cables on amazon that say are crossover cables which I suspect might do the job of connecting 2 and 5 to 3 and 4 but I need to do more research on this one.

If it is an original cord that came with the 5801, then it may be the one to use. Your model may use different pins if were made specifically for the UK market. If you look at the RJ11 sockets in the device, many times they only equip the pins (flexible gold wires) that are to be used rather than all 4, or 6.

I did a bit more testing and connected the landline to the 5801 and on the telephone side made a temporary crossover lead and that connected the phone to the 3CX extension registered to the 5801, and can dial extensions from the phone to other extensions and vice versa.

I then powered down the 5801 and the landline is connected directly to the phone (which is supposed to happen) this proves that the landline is connected to the 5801.

There is still issues that when call the extension of the 5801 it doesn’t auto answer and pick up the landline to allow dialling out and the same the other way round when call the landline from the mobile it doesn’t auto answer and connect to the extension to be able to dial other extensions.

So that seems to be a programming of the 5801 that needs changing as it doesn’t seem to be able to answer the landline or connect to it when receives a internal call from 3CX.

I’m very close to getting things working now though.

As I said, I have not seen a manual for one of these, but, I'd be surprised if it does what you are hoping it will.
I suspect, that from the telephone plugged into to the device, you can, by creating a dialplan, place a call out on the PSTN line, or, place a call to the 3CX PBX, another extension. You should be able to answer a call originating from either source. As you've discovered, the power failure feature causes the PSTN line to be connected directly to the phone. But, routing PSTN calls into 3CX, and vice versa, may not be possible.
