Configuring Call Recordings

Introduction

The call recording feature allows you to record calls for compliance and training purposes. Via the ‘Recordings’ page you can search and manage call recordings as well as download or delete a recording. Archiving a recording will delete the recording from local storage and copy it to the remote storage. Purge has a number of mass actions in regards to deleting and moving recordings.

Configuring Call Recording

To configure a call recording:

  1. Go to "Storage" and "Enable Remote Data Storage & Archive".
  2. Configure the location where recordings should be stored. In “Location Type” - select one of the following options for your remote archive:
  1. FTP - set the appropriate server network path (ftp://, ftps://, ftpes://), user and password to store recordings on the remote FTP server.
  2. Google Storage - upload your saved JSON key and click Connect to select a path in a Google Cloud storage bucket. See more info on how to configure Google Cloud storage.
  3. SMB - set the SMB (Server Message Block) server network path with the appropriate domain, username and password for the Windows share.
  4. SFTP - SSH File Transfer - set the SSH (Secure SHell) server path with the appropriate username, password and/or OpenSSH key. See more info on how to create and/or convert OpenSSH keys. The below SFTP services are not supported:
  1. MS Azure Blob Storage
  1. AWS S3 Buckets - upload an IAM Config file, get Access Key ID and Secret, select a region with a bucket name. See more info on how to configure AWS S3 Buckets.
  2. You can also use a Microsoft Sharepoint / MS 365 account file storage. See the guide on how to configure this.
  1. Enable Recordings and specify when recordings should be moved to archive.
  2. Set the Temporary Recording Location - this is the folder in which recordings are stored locally until they are archived. You should choose a folder outside of the 3CX installation directory.
  3. Click on OK to apply your settings.

⚠ Important Things to Remember

  • Do not set the recording location to any of the 3CX Phone System local installation folders, as these are removed during uninstall.
  • Setting the local recordings path in Linux requires the specified directory to be owned by the
    phonesystem
user and have proper permissions to be writable by the PBX.
  • Quota for Recordings (GB) - set the quota limit for call recordings in gigabytes (GB) to stop recording when this is reached.
  • Delete Temporary Recordings older than - Deletes temporary recordings older than X days.
  • Recordings are not written to disk when “Disk Protect Mode” is enabled in “Event Log” > “Notifications” > “Hard disk is at or near capacity”. This is triggered on less than 500MB free disk space with an email notification to the administrator.
