We arent using any hardphones as yet. Will will test out the software for a month and then decide whether or not we want to buy it along with the hardphones required.
I looked at a LOT of phone systems, both pay and free, and while I don't think 3CX is perfect, I chose it for my customers because:
1) I don't know linux, don't want to learn it's command prompt, and had to many hardware / driver issues that weren't easily resolved.
2) I wanted paid for technical support to backstop me, and they'd better be responsive and easy to understand
3) I wanted something I could offer to my SMALLER customers, not just the big rich ones. (Wish I had some of those

4) I wanted a good feature set now, and to see some real growth and movement to new features
5) I wanted to be able to run it under HyperV as a virtual computer (works with minor call quality issues so far)
3CX was the only product I found that hit all those requirements. Their tech support has been pretty good as well. And the pricing seems very fair and reasonable. I actually returned a $5,000 product and replaced it with 3CX at a quarter the cost. The pricier one just didnt justify the cost, and the tech support was "arrogant" to say the least.
