3Cx FailOver Details

I have read the documentation on the Failover concept and guide but I feel I am still missing something. During the installation process of the secondary server that will be "passive" how does this process go? It is in my understanding that we will need to have two licenses, one unique for each server in the solution.

I am aware that the license key is paired to the FQDN of 3CX but this leads me to another question. If I already configured my primary server with a FQDN and then attempt to use this one another server, would the installation not stop me from proceeding?

Might be a dumb question but I am in need of answers or some link with more details.

Failover with the Enterprise Key is the only way I would recommend for failover with 3CX, it was capable to do this with a single key (I am not sure if this option is still available).

The failover with Enterprise key is a single key with the ability to register twice (other commercial keys give the ability for a single registration request to the registration servers only).

The ability to be registered in 2 different locations gives the ability for Active > Passive failover.

Note: To failover with a single key (whether still available or not) was a real headache to setup.

For failover to work you need to use the same key which is bound to the same FQDN for both installations. To do so you will require an Enterprise key. Setup both systems with the same licence key and follow the guide to set the failover server to Passive.
