3CX Install from command line

I have it in my docs somewhere, but could you guys update the "how to install 3CX on Debian from the command line?
I have to do a proof of concept with failover, and only option to get the binaries is either use 3cx website install to amazon / microsoft / google , or download the ISO for debian, while I am trying to install the 3CX Instances in Digital Ocean droplets. Once again, I have that somewhere in my local wiki.. but while I was doing an upgrade I wanted to do this on the side, and the wiki is on the machine doing the upgrade now.. Just sayin :) Thank you
 
It looks like 3CX have removed the documentation. Here's a mirror of the old documentation which had instructions on installing via the command line: link

3CX command line install is no longer supported which is why it was removed.
 
@cobaltit - Do you have a source for this? I don't believe there has been any official news from 3CX about this so far.

That's correct. Upload the ISO and then install from it. Not that painful as I think you can 'upload' it directly from a URL and it you use the same account it will be there for future installs. But yes installing from ISO or from PBXExpress or the provider market place images are the only supported methods now

Not like an official partner notice but it was posted somewhere. Basically 3CX got tired of people mucking up installs, installing 3CX along with other stuff, etc

It'd be good to have confirmation from an official 3CX notice or at the very least, a 3CX staffer posting on the forum. If the latter was the case, then it'd be great if you could provide a link to the thread where this was posted.

Something we'd like to clarify is that if the old method of installing the 3CX package via the command line is now 'unsupported', what happens to the existing installations? I expect most 3CX Linux deployments across the world would have been created using the old method. Does that render them all unsupported?

If so, I'd say it would be a pretty ridiculous expectation from 3CX to require that all installations are re-deployed using their ISO just so that they are considered 'supported'. There would be no perceived benefit to us as partners and our customers.

Then it would be a good idea for 3CX to add their images in the market place.

AWS/Azure/GCP have images. DO lets you upload custom ISOs I believe (been a while since I played with DO). What market place do you think 3CX is missing from?

DO does not have any 3CX ISO in their Market place.
I'm just saying since officially installing directly from the command line is not possible anymore, AND since DO is a host of choice, it would make sense to have the image in their market place.

I did not try the ISO, but DO have their monitoring agents which are pretty cool, and not always installed in their OS template (need to be installed by an admin / root). Do the ISO let you gain root access? Because if not that's going to be an issue. Unless if sudo is setup.
 
You are correct. As I stated earlier DO lets you upload custom images (not ISOs) unfortunately. And 3CX does not have control over the DO marketplace. I am a little surprised they don't have a marketplace image there, but there could be a business reason why DO doesn't publish one. But regardless, the tools are there to use DO if that's who you want to use.

And noone said DO is a host of choice. DO is who 3CX uses primarily for 3CX hosting but it's pretty clear which providers 3CX recommends for customers:

Creating your PBX with a Popular Cloud Provider (3cx.com)

Also note that technically installing the DO monitoring agents would not be supported by 3CX. I doubt it will cause issues, and the images for other providers include their monitoring tools, but it is still technically out of support.

But this is one of the reasons why I prefer Vultr because generating the custom image the way DO wants is more work than just loading the ISO which Vultr allows.

What I wonder is: Hosted use DO in some regions...

@cobaltit About a year ago, I created an image and uploaded it. It worked fine. Just have to start the install of the ISO. Stop the VM, export it as a QCOE for example, and import it in DO.

As a vendor, 3CX can contact directly DO and upload the image since they own the software.

It's just getting harder for affiliates like me who like to control the installation part.
We do not use window. We only use AWS / DO. And when we do a proof of concept, I feel uncomfortable asking the potential customer to open an account with 1) 3CX, 2) the virtual hosting company (since during the "easy online install"), I believe 3CX won't let an email be used multiple time.

I know I do not represent the majority. It's just painful.
 
As cobaltit pointed out, you have either stick to the supported cloud providers or use the ISO. Not install from the command line or anything else. We have been very clear on it i believe.

How do you deploy on Lightsail and DO (for Hosted) ? DO does not support custom ISOs, neither does Lightsail.

If you have a custom DO image, why not make one public to allow installs on our own DO accounts?

Good point cobaltit. We are going to get our image listed in marketplace and consider adding it to PBX express

I like to continue to host 3CX installations on OVH, as I always have.
Is this still possible because I can no longer find any documentation on how to install 3CX on OVH.
