I've seen a post about this topic that was posted back on 2009.. I hope things have changed now..

Can I configure a voice gateway in a remote office with SBC?

We tried to accomplish this without SBC and using only a VPN.. but we're having many issues.

Hello @BLTEL

Please note that gateways are only supported for local provisioning. If the PBX is remote to the gateway then you will need to use a VPN connection that will have the gateway appear as local to the PBX.
It is also recommended to use a supported gateway for optimum results. https://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/

There have been posts about getting ATA's working via SBC (as extensions) but I don't think I've seen anyone register gateways as trunks via SBC.

In the link I posted, there is mention of PRI gateways working by "using the same method"...so, maybe.
I have not tried it myself.

Oh I do see that. Definitely not something I'd want to support but to each their own.

From the original post, it's not clear if this is a FXS, or FXO gateway.

I have setup many brands of FXO, FXS and ISDN gateways across the 3CX SBC and although it is completely un-supported I have never had any issues.

All you have to do is point the registrar address of the gateway to be the SBC's local address instead of 3CX (this is after provisioning as a local gateway). Patton for example are very complex and you will need to auto provision from 3CX unless you know the devices very well.
