We're finding that 3CX Screen Sharing is not working on multiple systems.

To recreate the problem...

1. click "Start a 3CX WebMeeting Now" icon at the bottom of the 3CX windows desktop software

2. click "Start Screen Sharing" icon at in the chrome web browser that opens.

3. a new tab appears to the address https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/3cx-click-to-call/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (the "x"'s are a bunch of random characters i've blocked out here)

4. the new tab displays "404. That’s an error. The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know."

It's almost as if the app that supports screen sharing is missing from the Google store for windows-based chrome.

Can anyone else confirm if they are seeing this same problem?

Thanks for reporting this. It's not intended to be like this. We're looking into it.
We'll get back to you as soon as we have something on this.

any update about this issue ?

A new version of the plugin will become available in the next few days. This should resolve any issues you have.

We are receiving the same issues on multiple deployments of 3cx and is becoming more and more of an issue with End Users.

Will we be notified when the new plugin will be updated and available?

Question,

I am as well as having this issue when trying to share my desktop. I am running Chrome on Ubuntu 16.04 and get the same 404 error:

a. Can I run this on Ubuntu?

b. I notice the chrome web store that there are 3 different versions of the plugins, but none of which are from 3CX. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/3cx Are these legit?

Scroll up a little bit and look for an answer from Leonidas. That should answer b.

To address "a" ...
There is support for Windows and Mac. I would think that because the plugin is a plugin for Chrome and not specific to Windows itself, it should probably work. The key word is "probably".

Do you know about these app providers? Are they legit 3CX Providers? Or once 3CX provide the app, it will be from them?

1. Gruppo STI Spa
2. meet.youthplus.edu.au
3. supportside.net

I don't know anything about those. It sounds like they're trying to piggyback on 3CX to me and I would treat them with ample suspicion.

The 3CX plugin is from 3CX itself. And it will be re-available in the next few days according to @LeonidasG .

So what do we do in the meantime? we're doing a significant PC deployment this weekend - what do I tell the customer? Can't do webmeetings until 3cx decides to publish the new version? Use another product? Seriously? Why was the current version removed from the store before the new version replaced it? If we ever want customers to take us serious as a mission critical component to their business - we cannot do stuff like this. Could you picture Microsoft removing the ability to send email from Outlook for a "few days" until a new version is available? There would be a riot... Why is the PBX considered any different (and more importantly even more critical that email)?

We as 3CX will never remove a feature like this out of the blue.

A low level vulnerability was automatically detected in the Click2Call part of the Screen Sharing plugin by the Google development team and was consequently removed from the Google store. A notice was sent to 3CX with the details.

A new updated version of the plugin has already been uploaded, however the approval process on Google's side seems to be taking quite some time as they will manually verify whether the vulnerability is gone. In the mean time new WebMeeting users are suffering the side effects. We're hoping the approval process to be done as soon as poasible as we understand the stress it puts on our platform users.

I LOVE that we are worried about security - but this is one of those moments where we should use the mailing list (which I get lots of marketing oriented emails) - to notify people about the issue. Especially partners (or at least Gold & Platinum partners). Otherwise we're left in the dark.

Spent 30 minutes on the phone with the CEO of a client of ours trying to tshoot the issue only to find out I was ignorant on something big like this... It just doesn't reflect well on 3CX nor me as supposedly a "platinum partner". We HAVE to do better as a team & partners if we want to make more money & spread the 3CX word....

The timing of this was quite unfortunate as it happened smack in the middle of a very major holiday.

I think we didn't do too bad as the issue was fixed and uploaded on the same day, however the approval process is killing us.

We are already considering better ways to communicate issues, system health and status of WebMeeting with all users. This is something you'll be seeing with the new year.

Apparently Firefox also went ahead and removed the 3CX Click2Call plugin for the store for reasons unrelated to security. The issue was reported, fixed and approved within 1 hour today Saturday. Completely seamless to all users. I hope this shows the level of commitment we have towards WebMeeting and its user base.

Our intent was to do the same for the Chrome plugin however we're stuck on the approval process by the Google team, it doesn't seem they are in any type of rush. Unfortunately an alternative way of installing the plugin can't be provided due to the installation process being too difficult. It's really not as easy as click and run.

There's a temporary workaround i can provide you and that's pluginless screen sharing. It requires a few simple steps to setup. Find these below.

Pluginless Screensharing for WebMeeting:
  1. Using your Chrome browser, navigate to the following URL: chrome://flags
  2. Once there, search for: Experimental Web Platform feature
  3. Enable this option and re-launch chrome as instructed.
That's it. You can now use pluginless screen sharing. We've already added support for this ahead of the new Google Chrome 72 release which will have this option/flag enabled by default. The release is going to occur in 24 days from now as shown here: https://www.chromestatus.com/features/schedule

And the plugin is back up.
Apologies to everyone affected by this.

Never mind. All good. I restarted.
