SMS is coming on strong with increasing numbers of VOIP Providers supporting it. As 3CX jumped in early and successfully on WebRTC, SMS is the next opportunity to make a noticeable difference. What do you think of 3CX handling and routing the SMS messages through enhancement of the existing 3CX clients. Of course, SMS has enormous appeal to the Millennials, who reputedly, don't want to talk on a phone! :-) My business customers want the ability to receive, manage and respond to their SMS messages with ease just as they do phone calls. Containing all that SMS activity within the 3CX sphere will be more productive and 3CX brand centric than having to use a third-party (infiltrator/future competitor) program! What do you think about making this part of the 3CX appeal?

BTW, please consider making auto-responders part of the appeal, including auto-response by extension and interactive auto-response, for example, when someone wants an address or directions to the business, the first auto-response message says to text back "xyz" to get directions, "abc" for a call back, "123" for today's specials, etc.

I agree. We are a total package provider for VOIP using 3cx as our backend and we have lost at least a dozen customers in the last year by not having an SMS system. We use Flowroute and Thinq for our trunking which both support SMS. We are looking into making a web portal for SMS right now but it would be so much better if we could have this in the chat that everyone already has access to and knows how to use.

I just wanted to keep this going by saying AT&T has enabled SMS via their SIP services. We are moving from Spectrum to AT&T in a few months (takes 90-120 days for the buildout of the fiber service), and that was one of the selling points to us. I hope 3CX will consider adding this to their softphone at least. Our Yealink phones have SMS supported as well, as it's right on the messaging screen. This would be a major benefit for our sales and support staff.

Agree, built-in SMS/Text capability would be a major benefit. At a minimum, being able to receive SMS messages via a DID to a cell phone would be be GREAT! Lack of this SMS capability, prevents our company from using any DID routing to our salesman's cell phones nationwide.

I am REALLY interested in this as well... Reason being is 2FA. Most web based apps (Office 365) and many more are now REQUIRING 2FA.

Agree with mcaponong. We are losing existing ring central clients that would rather endure the awful service than give up their SMS to their business phone.
Bandwidth has an easy API.

Just had a customer as about this and now is looking at other solutions that include SMS. @nathan Sutherlan, they are going to use voip.ms so did you happen to go any further into looking into their solution to add this capability? Thanks! J

Last I heard is that it may not show up for another year...

I don't believe it will come before the end of the year but it's definitely coming. Maybe Update 6 or 7. From what I've seen they've been working hard on rewriting the mobile apps from scratch (the iOS is sooo much faster), 911 alerts, pushing to finalize Update 5, improving the browser extension, On-premise webmeeting, SBC cluster, CFD improvement. That's a lot of work quite frankly, all those projects running simultaneously.

Greetings,

We've been absent from the scene for a few years regarding this SMS/MMS issue. I see that 3CX has not done anything to implement SMS/MMS. Does anyone know if there is something we can do to push this through. Why can't 3CX create/employ a development team for SMS/MMS implementation.

I've come to the conclusion that the reason why 3CX does not focus on SMS/MMS is because their target market is large companies with 20 or more extensions. These are typically your office workforce and not necessarily a mobile workforce that are heavy users of SMS/MMS. But, 3CX is dropping the ball as times are quickly changing and they are falling behind.

I strongly agree with the sediment that they focus on large companies, they really need more configuration flexability to better cater to smaller businesses. FreePBX has them beat hands down in this department and its sad, it's often bittersweet making the switch for them and it doesn't need to be! SMS is a must have these days. SMS/MMS is a must have these days, period.

Hi All,

My SIP & DID provider (Bandwidth) supports SMS but I don't know if there is any way to integrate with 3CX Mobile app or not.

Thanks

SMS is in development now. It was not released with Update 6 beta. Not sure if it will show up later. I'm under the impression, however, that it will not work with all SIP providers. We will have to wait to see what gets released.

We also want this through 3CX! If not ,we will most likely be dumping 3cx altogether and going back to FreePBX when our year is up. (We don't use the mobile client much).

The provider we use (VoIP.ms) recently implemented SMS over the SIP trunks, and we'd love to be able to see those on the CSR's screen and reply to them. I can whip something up to push messages out via VoIP.ms's API, but that doesn't help for for seeing incoming messages live. It would be much better if it were integrated into the 3CX desktop client.

Just followinig up. did anyone got any luck in getting the sms to work with 3cx? or its a provider who will handle this?

Did you read any of the above posts as answers to both questions were provided. 3CX has no SMS support, and neither does any other premise-based/capable solution. Many providers offer SMS on their VoIP (we do) but as to how that works and what it entails is provider dependent.

I agree. It would be great to see, especially in light of COVID and how it has impacted our clients and our own business.

It would be nice to hear of a status on this.

Thank you.

This should be available in the next release.
Thank you.
That is very encouraging to hear. What is your source, by the way?

I've also been in touch with our 3CX rep. I have a deal on hold waiting for SMS capability. The client is currently with RingCentral and won't switch until he as SMS built-in. I'm told it should be here by the end of the year. No hard commitment but from what I heard from my rep and now seeing that info on the 3CX site itself, I'm optimistic.
