3cx upgrade v15.5 SP6 to v16 upgrade 5

Hi,

We are planning an upgrade to the latest version.
I had gone through a few posts and I saw that there is some changes that has to be done in the recordings.
Someone told that once update is done, a red button will be shown on the console.

I'm still at dark about this.
Can someone from 3cx/Community let me know what this conversion is about?
Can we skip it and do it at a later stage?

@JohnS_3CX This is the reason.
What will happen to the recordings that are stored in a secondary location, which are again mounted to the server.
This location isn't mentioned in the 3cx server, only the location where the live calls will be saved are mentioned in the server.
So will both the recordings be converted?
If the second one isn't converted, what would happen to those recordings?

Since V15.5SP6 did not support recording archiving, I presume you were simply moving older recordings to the 2nd drive (where the 3CX system could no longer see them). In this case, those recordings will not be touched nor will they exist on the new system. Only the normal recordings folder will exist as far as the system is aware.

V16 supports new methods of archiving that enable you to have the archived recordings appear in the database, but be stored elsewhere (which I imagine is what you want)

A suggestion if you wish:

1. Move the recordings from Archiving Drive to Live Drive
2. Allow V16 to discover all of them and convert them
3. Set up an archiving location in V16 (can be FTP / SFTP / SMB / pointing to the real location)
4. Allow V16 to archive them from Live -> Archive

The result will be that

- the Live Drive will become empty of recordings
- the Archive Drive will have all the recordings
- the management console will allow you to access the archived recordings directly from the UI
- any new recordings you make from this point onwards will stay on the live drive
- when you want to free space on the live drive you can enable a schedule to move them to the archive

Yes, you are correct. I manually do this every 6 months, and we have kept a script in place for the recording to be moved. The current version of 3cx we are using doesn't have the recordings that are moved. But we have a different tool to access it.

The thing is, we never access recordings via Management console. Only those recordings that are 6 months or earlier are accessed via MC, and we have no issues with not being able to access them either.

So, since that is the scenario.
If I go ahead with the conversion, it should be fine, right?

Archieving recordings using 3cx MC is something that we might look later, but we haven't planned it for now. But thank you for the suggestion, it will be helpful when we decide to do it.

The only thing I need a clear answer is, I have to do this conversion only for the recordings that I need to access via the MC,is that right?

If I dont have to access the manually archieved recordings, I can simply go ahead with the conversion of the recordings that are connected to 3cx, right?

Yes that's right, and that will make them accessible from the management console in V16
