Solved 3CX v16 won't upgrade

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade the 3CX system to fix the iphone issues that I have been going on. When I click on update to run it, I get kicked out of the management console like it is going, but then I can log right back in without issues and no update has been done.


  • 3CX Version, Pro Annual 16.0.4.493
  • Server OS, Debian 9
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? Hosted Local
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware Yealink t46s/ latest firmware
  • Provisioning Method: Local
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model: Nexvortex
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO
 
Do you get an email regarding the update? If so are there any errors?

Sorry for the delay in response. I have tried to run it multiple times. The only error I get is that "An update process is already running now." Outside of that, there is no failure. Phone system has been rebooted.
 
did you try to restart all services?, a reboot does not always restart all services.

I had not. I thought the restart did restart all the services. Now, here is where it gets interesting. When teh services came back up, I got 3 emails at the same time. One that 3CX update failed, one that 3CX update was successfull, and one was a notification of stopped services. I tried to run the update again, because it was still showing available, and nothing happened again. I waited a little bit, then tried it again since it seemed nothing happened, and I got the failed email that it was already in process.
 
Windows or Debian? if Windows 10 or Server

Reboot the system first.
Log in the console, goto "Terminal", type "Reboot"
The system reboot and when it is up and running try the update again.

I have tried that before, but I just did it again and the same thing happened. I request the update, it kicks me out of the management console (as it should). I waited and never get an email that the update is complete. I can then log right back in and the same update is sitting there waiting. If I try to run the update again, it says the update failed because there is already an update in progress. With the windows 3CX updates I did recently, they were done in about 5 minutes and I couldn't log back into the management console (as it should be with a server error) and everything is good. This is my first Debian update and it is giving me problems.
 
Next will be very tricky... update Debian using the command line, but before make a backup of your 3CX and save on a save place. Not on the 3CX server.
As I said, log in to your Debian machine as root
then type "sudo apt-get update"
then type "sudo apt-get upgrade"
Now all files etc. will be updated inclusive 3CX.
This procedure is not recommended by 3CX and completely at your own risk. Thats why you must backup first.

I tried these steps. It looks like it started to take the upgrade, got to 72% and then kept saying there was an error connecting to a public IP that I presume is associtated with 3CX. It just kept showing 72% for a while. I was able to end the process and the 3CX system is working fine, minus the initial issue of not being able to upgrade the system.
 
When you install 3CX on Debian for the first time, did you use the 3CX-iso?
What was the public IP-address you get the error from?

Yes, it was installed from the iso and the public IP came from 199.232.72.204
 
Strange.
FWIW the IP address 199.232.72.204 linked to some .ru domain, not to 3CX.
Are you Russian?

No, in the US. That is just the IP is was trying to connect to when doing the "apt-get upgrade".

After rebooting the debian server completely, I was able to get the "apt-get update" started, but it would not pass 0% on a 92KB file.
