3CX V18 on Google server will not update.

I have 11 instances of V18 on Google servers all working very well with no issues for years.

I am now told I have to update all of these to V20 by 18 August.

This requires upgrading the server to 2 CPU, 2Gb RAM and bigger disk costin about twice as much as the f1small I have been running for years.

So I upgraded the server for our company 3CX and tried to update to V20 - this failed - I am presuming because all my Google servers are Linux 9 and not 10.

Trying to create a new instance and restore from backup but 3CX v20 is not in marketplace.

Anyone any suggestions of how I can update?

You have to be on v18 update 9a by August. https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/v18-update9a/

What version are you on specifically?

If you’re truly using v18 on Debian 9 that wasn’t a supported way to do it.

The platform list has changed over time. If it’s not available directly you can presumably install using the ISO. But you should be on 9a first so the backup restores to v20.

If you still have Debian 9 somehow then spawning a new VM is a must, God knows what will happen if you try to upgrade those ones as is, it was never tested. It's a miracle you're working without issues in the first place.

Here's what you do:
1. Take a backup and download it
2. Go to https://portal.3cx.com and login with you partner account
3. In "My systems" find the license key and click on install.
4. Select "Self Hosted" and go to the end of the wizard. At this point I strongly recommend you shutdown your old machine.
5. Select Google from the list and then "Authenticate".

If I'm not mistaken Google doesn't charge turned off instances so don't delete the old ones yet. Run 3CX v20 for a week, make sure everything's in order, then you can delete them.

Thank you for your replies. My appologies - all instance are on Debian 10 Buster.
I do not seem to have update V18 9a available - dashboard shows 18.0 update 9 (build 31). Update page just shows update to V20.
I am getting failed update when I try - log attached. I am not a Linux nerd and cannot see specifically why it failed.

Any help appreciated.

You're on v18 9a (18.0.9.31).

Looks like you have some repositories causing the problem.

Try this:

1. ssh to the machine
2. Run this command

cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d

3. Then run this

ls -l

4. If you see a file called "backports.list" run the following command:

sudo nano backports.list

5. You will probably see a line that looks like:

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports main

6. Add a # infront of it so you comment it out. If there's more than one line do this for all:

#deb http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports main

7. CTRL+X and then "y" to save the file and try the upgrade from the 3CX Management Console again.

Important: Always take a backup and download it before carrying out such tasks. Also better perform this at a time when you have time to recreate the instance should something go wrong.

ChrisC you are aa genius! I wish I knew more about Linux! There were 2 entries in the backports.list - I had to comment out both and then it upgrades without issue and quicker than expected!.
