  • Phone Model: Kyocera V65E6560
  • Android Version: [Android 5.1.1]
  • App Version: [16.0.0.35]
  • 3CX PBX Version: [V16 Update 7 (16.0.7.1078)] / [Debian]
  • Network Connection: [WiFi / IPv4]
  • Client is on the same network as the PBX
  • Background: Many the users in our facility are provided with these older phones to use on Wifi. They are a tougher model so they survive well and meet the intended purpose of being a replacement for the previous pager system. the call quality on them is horrible but they work great for taking pictures, chats, and internet radio. I know they are old and bad but I was told by 3CX that we would be able to use the Legacy app on them for quite some time.
I updated our server to 16 update 7 so we could make use of some of the new features we had been looking forward to. Update installed fine, web client and windows client work great, the normal android app seems to be fine but I have had multiple user report issues with the legacy app. The chats work and show up normal but as soon as you close the app and start it back up all the chats are gone. If you send a chat or receive a chat, that particular conversation will reappear until the app is closed again.

Is this a known issue? Any Ideas on a fix?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

The legacy app was maintained as a "transitional" option, but users need to start using the new app if you want all the functionality to continue to work for them.

There will be no updates going into the legacy app.

I understand that there are no new updates for the legacy app. These devices are not capable of using the new App or we would already have updated them. Replacing close to 100 devices is not a cheap endeavor.
I was not expecting any new or fancy features on these phones, again they are a glorified pagers. I did expect that the basic functions to continue to work. So I'm still wondering why this basic feature is all of a sudden not compatible? Also if this was a known compatibility shift why was it not announced?

It was announce here: https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/android-app/

About the replacement, I fully understand that the cost is not going to be small, regardless what you replace them with, but that is exactly why we kept the legacy app around.

The reason why the functionality on the legacy app, as updates move forward, will become less usuable, is because the way the Server expects to be communicated with (mainly due to huge optimizations) has changed.

It might be none of my business, and it surely won't help you, but:
You should definitly replace devices that old. Android 5 was replaced 2015 and the last security fix was released like 3 years ago. It's a major security concern in your company!
No worries, you are correct and this advice is solid. I have been trying to replace these phones for a while now.
