I work in an environment where we would like certain extensions to be able to only make and receive internal calls. Outbound restriction is no problem but I am not finding anyway to disable/block all incoming external calls to certain extensions. Is this possible?

Select the extension under extensions node ---> options ----> restrictions ---> check disable external calls box.

Unfortunately that only blocks outbound calls. I need to block calls coming into the building to these extensions.

You just remove those extensions from ring groups.... If the desired extensions are not in the ring groups external inbound calls will not go to those extensions.....

Can you elaborate, I don't understand. The extensions aren't currently in any Ring Groups or do you mean Extension Groups? Thanks

I'm assuming that you mean to block outside calls, originating through a digital receptionist.

Exactly what we are trying to do.

There are a number of call forward options associated with each extension along with the ability to differentiate between inside and outside calls...however ,they all pretty much rely on the user being unavailable, unregistered, or busy. If you want inside extensions to still be able to reach the extension in question, then you may be out of luck.

Perhaps ring tone based on caller ID, where outside calls would simply not ring on the set?

Interesting thought on the ring tone, not ideal but better than nothing I think. That would be done in the provisioning config file for those extensions?

I think that a lot depends on the type of set you are using and if it supports this feature.
Here is some info, some of it is quite old unfortunately, and doesn't go into a great detail.

I have a similar situation where outside callers reaching a specific 'Digital Receptionist' (i.e. 708) , should not be able to reach extensions 100-399, but they should be able to reach extensions 400-499.
I created an outbound rule to prevent calls from 708 to numbers starting with 1, 2,3 (3 digit length). But it seems the outbound rules apply to extensions but not to 'Digital Receptionist'.
Any workaround?

Thank you
Ben

It sounds as if a Feature Request to add extension restriction rules for DRs, and/or outside callers, is in order...
