Hello,
I've noted when I pick up a call a huge delay occurs in the comunication...
There isn't packet loss and the qualiy of sound is good... but there's till 10 seconds of delay since my interlocutor speaks and i get the voice...

Any idea what's wrong???

Does this always occur or only after a while?

Is it from the start of the call?

What are there results directly after a reboot of your modem/router and the 3cx box?

Can you describe the call ? What phones are being used ?

Is it a LAN call or is it incomming via gateway ? What about the server status page, are there any interesting log entries there ?

I also hit this issue. The voice around delay 7sec. It is same as juanky's case. There isn't packet loss and the quality of sound is good. Form system log there is no abnormal transition found. Then I drop the call and re-issue again. At this call, the delay should not found. Need not reboot the PBX or restart the services then back to normal. For voice delay call the media server seems need around 7 sec to build the RTP call.

Could you please provide some more specific information about such calls. Is this issue reproducible, or it happens occasionally?

Thanks,
Stepan

It happens occasionally. At system log it seem same as normal, nothing abnormal log appear.

EXT 100 ---- NAT---INTERNET-----NAT----3CX PBX----NAT----INTERNET-----NAT----EXT 101

Ok,

What are the ping times like ?

EXT 100 --- 3CX PBX and 3cx PBX --- EXT 101 .

Also, what is the bandwith usage of those 'pipelines'? are these net connections shared with other traffic (SMTP , HTTP) ?

Do not think it is a bandwidth (goodput) issue.

question:

When you have this happening, is the conversation part delayed. With this I mean, is it like:

Hello ==== 7seconds ====== Hello

or is it

H===e====l===l===o

Hello again,
Sorry for the delay to answer I was missing for a couple days ;-)

It occurs to me almost allways...
I don't think it is an banwidth issue because all the devices are in LAN ... and this issue doesn't occur if the call is transferred instead of picked up...

Little Example:

- Someone calls to my ISDN number ... it rings in the extension # 100 ... The "human" recepcionist attend the call and transfer the call to my extesion (# 101) ... All works fine

- Someone calls to my ISDN number ... it rings in the extension # 100 ...
The "human" recepcionist is out for lunch... so there's nobody in the extension # 100 ... so I pick up the call from my extension typing *10* (i tryied with *10*100 with the same results) and I caught the call ... Buts doesn't work fine ... there is a 7~10s deleay....

The delay is

Hello ==== 10 s ====== Hello

There isn't packet loss... the quality is good... and , as I commented, all the voip devices are in the same LAN... and this does't occur if the call is transferred....

Any idea???

Thanks in advance.

Try to bind to media server the extension which does pick up.

The extension is already binded to Mediaserver...

To be honest, no idea really.

So lets list the possibles:

- Network, as you mentioned it sits all on the same network and the delay does not happen in when you transfer.
- Codecs? Have all the devices G711U/A enabled?
- Server/Computer the software is running on does it have enough grunt to do the job. Also I noticed that if you move 3cx to its own disk or a disk with low IO it works a lot better.
- Defrag of the disk.

The reason why I hint towards some HW issues is that your voice quality is good but the message does not come accross smooth there are delays. No idea why so we might aswell start at the bottom of elimination.

Than try to unbind it :)

I will try to test this tomorrow first thing in the morning on the test network... I will come back to you with my conclusions..

Did a few tests.. Just can't reproduce this...:(

Hello again,

More clues...

The delay issue only occurs when I pick up an external call... It works fine when i pick up internal calls...

I can't unbind my extension from Mediaserver because if i do it when I pick up a call I can't hear to my interlocutor...

I'll try to do more extensive tests this weekend...

see you...

maybe you can introduce Qos in your routers, letting voip traffic be the first.

It might solve the delay problem if its router/network hardware related.

I think if it is a QoS releated issue... the delays allways occurs, even in transferred calls... , isn't it??

i think your right, but since you tried all :D

few questions:
1. If you simply answer call, is there any delays?
2. Where from (VoIP provider, PSTN -VoIP gateway, some ISDP-SIP bridge etc.) are you receiving the call?
3. Which kind of equipment are in use (software gateways, hardware etc)?
It means who(what) delivers data to 3CX phone system?

Logs can help to investigate a problem as well

Thanks,
Stepan
