Hey guys,

I have a potential client, 180 extensions across 5 offices.

No they want to have the ability to have up to 100 agents that can record all their calls (not a problem)

This client absolutely wants this solution to be hosted but my main issue is that he wants his recordings to never be deleted. That's my issue. I need a way to offload the recordings from the hosted PBX let's say, every week and have them moved somewhere else so if he needs them, he can access them from there. This needs to be automated and if possible i want the PBX to run on Linux and not Windows.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hello @pitrickzul

You can write a script on linux to copy the recordings to anywhere you want at set intervals. You can also set it to check the filenames so it only copies new recordings.
This is not something the PBX will do however. This has to be done at the OS level. But it is possible if you know how to do it.

I encourage you to take a look at our 3CX Recording Manager. We auto-archive the recordings in real-time to any disk you can access -- windows share, iSCSI SAN, NAS, etc. The nice thing about our solution is that you still have a searchable database once the recordings are moved where you can score, annotate, download, play, email, etc.

As your solution would be the most efficient, my issue is that you sell all your tools in a package, i don't want to pay extra (which can be close to the cost of the licence itself) for the need of only 1 tool. If we can buy the tools individually, it would be something to consider but as a whole, i can't justify the cost.

Hi Pitrickzul,

I sometimes use a very simple script in conjunction with the Putty Secure Copy application to download files from a Linux PBX in the cloud to a Windows server at customer premises.

I run the script as a Windows scheduled task on the Win server. The task can be set to run say every night at midnight. or every Sunday evening, as frequently as required...etc.

The basic process is as follows:

1. First, I download the pscp.exe from the Putty website > Type pscp.exe dowload into Google to locate. Place the pscp file in a folder on the Win server.

2. Paste the following into a text file and save it with a .cmd filename extension.
@echo off
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\pscp"
pscp.exe -r -pw <PBXrootpassword> root@<IPAddress ofPBX>:/var/lib/3cxpbx/Instance1/Data/Recordings/* C:\Recordings

3. Run the saved file as often as you want to from the Windows Task scheduler on the customer prem Windows installation.

You can adapt the above by using an account other than root. Also, depending on if you want to delete the recordings, download all etc, there are a number of switches that can be used with pscp - just check the documentation. Also, you will need to have port 22 ssh port open / forwarded to the PBX - You will probably want to use a firewall to tie access on this to the customer prem public IP and it might also be worth using a non-standard ssh port.

The basic concept above with tweaks per customer does work pretty reliably for me.

You don't need to justify the cost, the customer does. If it is important to them, they will pay, otherwise it's not that important. You can use a script just to move the recording files themselves but then it becomes an issue with how you manage them. voiptoys answer is what you are looking for.

I'm all for paying for something that is needed and i can sell that easily. I'm not in the business of overselling for things my clients don't need. Would make a lot more sense for them to sell individually, imo, they would sell a lot more products. I'm betting there's a lot of people not buying it because they really just need 1 product
