Hi we are running V18 and have recently noticed that we cannot add any new phones to the system. When I goto a user and add a new phone then select the phone and enter its MAC address and press OK nothing happens! The add phone box stays on the screen as if its not accepting the OK button. Tried a few different phones supported and not and on 2 separate 3CX systems.

I also notice that on the extension not working the DeskphoneWebPass is short!
I can confirm this was indeed your issue. Please regenerate the passwords like my colleague @GeorgeP_3CX said.

If you do it for all your extensions today, you can avoid future issues

We do not want people using weak passwords, too many people get hacked too often and it consistently comes down to weak passwords again and again.

Better yet, consider regenerating absolutely everything for everyone. Since you had some weak passwords already, is it perhaps time for a security audit?

Hi Paul,

On the "bad" extension, you can select it and click the Regenerate button on the top of the page.

This will generate new secure (and 3CX compliant) credentials for the extension, and if there was anything with a less secure password, it should now be resolved.

Then, try to add a phone again and tell us if it lets you now.
Hi John,
Great news! It worked just like you suggested!
Thankyou very much for you prompt replies and resolution with this issue.

Only problem with regenerating all users is that most are using old Cisco phones and each phone will need to be manually reconfigured for the new details. I know it has to be done so will speak to users to find suitable time. You mention too many users get hacked, what does a hacker get access to, the PC or the ability to make phone calls using their SIP trunks?

If you have weak SIP credentials it becomes easy to fall victim to fraudulent calls.

You might find these a short but interesting read on the subject:
