After reboot of my phone server (my desktop PC), status for the service "3CX PhoneSystem 01 Configuration Server" continues to remain "starting" under Services (local), but never starts on its own. Thus, the dependent services do not start, either. to get my phone system to work, I have to stop the configuration service and manually restart it.

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. The most recent change to my network is the addition of a new networked printer. I can't think of any thing else that would/could have started this behavior.

Any ideas where to start?

You might try changing the 3CX services to Delayed Start to see if that helps.

I changed the configuration server to delayed start, but not the others. Are you recommending that I change them all?

i set them all to delayed

Hi @Barshfield

We do not recommend you install the system on your desktop PC, but rather on a dedicated machine that only runs 3CX and nothing else. This is to ensure that nothing unexpected may get in the way of running your PBX.

If you are in a position that you cannot avoid this, at least set up a VM on the PC and run 3CX inside the VM. Our Debian ISO should make it small and efficient for you.

As for the service not starting you can take a look at the windows event logs to begin with.

I have another machine I can dedicate to 3CX, so I will install it on that machine. (I will need an IT person to do that for me, so it will not be until next week). In the meantime, I have set all 3CX services to "automatic (delayed)" as suggested and it seems to have helped a bit.

Still, I would like to determine what it is that has created a conflict or has otherwise compromised the performance of 3CX on this machine. I have successfully run in this configuration for almost two years and the problem just showed up after I installed a network printer.

The printer may or may not be related, this is unknown at this stage. Unless you are prepared to do some digging the reason may be difficult to establish at this point.

No problem though, if you have a free machine you can dedicate to your PBX then this is the perfect scenario. Your IT person can follow this guide here which contains the steps, as well as the related links they will need for a successful setup. Just make sure to create a backup on your existing PBX and download it off the machine so they can restore the backup for you during the installation phase.

Once done, you will need to have them take care of your firewall ports too, in order to ensure your system runs smoothly https://www.3cx.com/docs/ports/

Make sure that your existing 3CX install is disabled/uninstalled/offline when you do this to avoid any license issues or conflicts. The phones will need to be reconfigured after the new system is up and running, let me know if you need any more help and I can assist you. If you have any questions before the migration fire away :)

Thank you for your helpful and detailed response. I will follow up on this thread if I run into any snags.
