Connect a modem phone line with 3cx

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to connect a telephone line coming from a normal home/small business type of modem/router combo that my ISP provided.
Usually I setup systems with a supported SIP provider.

To be clear, the ISP provided device looks something similar to the one below, where I currently get the phone connection from the grey RJ11 ports

Would I need additional hardware ? and how would I go about connecting the line to the server ?

You will need an analog adapter. The supported list is here.

I use patton for analog lines, but you might be able to find a less expensive one for only one phone line.

I would probably get a sip trunk from one of the lower cost providers, i.e. Telnyx or VOIP.ms.

If you can still find one (check Amazon), an SPA-3102, or the older SPA-3000, made by Sipura / Linksys / Cisco (they have all had their names on them at one point), would be a good option. While they are not officially supported by 3CX, they will give you one PSTN phone line connection, and one analogue telephone connection. You will have to manually configure it, so it helps to have some basic network/VoIP experience, but I can help you get it working.

This is assuming that the 3CX server and the PSTN line you wish to use, are in the same location (you are not using a hosted installation).

I found official documentation to setup a Patton device on 3CX. I presume this would be the easier option. Checked Telnyx rates and it is 50% more expensive than what my ISP currently provides.

What is the difference between the FXO and FXS models from Patton ?

The line and the 3CX server together with desk phones reside in the same location.

FXO connects to phone lines. FXS connects to analog phones.

setting an SPA3102 as a trunk on 3CX is working well , i've always running several for same case as you want to use it.

Thanks for your help, FXO and FXS is clear now.

I decided to go for the Grandstream GXW 4104 FXO. Although it is a bit more expensive than other options, it can support multiple lines which may or may not be a future requirement and there is full setup documentation by 3cx.
