Hi there,

I made a Bash-Script to create a custom PhoneBook for SNOM-Devices including all numbers and the company name. The Standard PhoneBook is very limited, showing only mobile numbers and no company name. There are a lot requests in this forum for such a feature, so here's my Script.

Look at the instructions in the Script and make a Cron-Job under root to run this Script periodically.

With this PhoneBook you can press the "details" Button on your Snom-Phone to show all the numbers of a single contact. Outgoing calls are also shown with a name in the display.

Rename the attachment to "custom-snom-phonebook.sh" (delete the .txt-ending, you can't upload .sh files here). New versions are posted in this Thread if necessary. If you have any questions ask :)

Greetings

Attached you will find an update of the Script (Version: 1.0.2). There is a random instance name in the provisioning path. Setting up a second 3CX Server made me realize that.

Hi again,

another update (Version: 1.0.4). This update adds Ring Groups to the Phonebook.

HI mOrbo,

your basis is an Exchange public directory and not the 3CX company phonebook, correct?

Hi jknick,

no, not if you ask about the Script.

Yes we are maintaining our contacts in Exchange, but then these contacts get synced to the 3CX company phonebook like described here:
https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/pbx-crm-integration/#h.5q3i8vyk3vdt

The Script is reading these contacts directly from the internal 3CX Database in the Linux Appliance. So if you maintain your contacts directly in the 3CX company phonebook without syncing them from Exchange, the Script should also work. Just leave the VAR "PublicFolder" empty.

A minor update of the Script (Version 1.0.5), with the possibility to delete unwanted numbers from the phonebook (for example Paging-Extensions).

HI mOrbo,

thank you for the fast feedback. I'll give it a try.

Very nice idea, but you need to be very careful with scripts like this, you are directly accessing the DB to get the existing data and this can lead to bad things, especially if for some reason multiple connections open and are not closed after.

I must mention this, directly accessing the DB generally invalidates any official support on a given system. In case of an issue stemming from this, you will be asked to re-install the system without restoring a backup as that can become currupted, so make sure you make regular backups and keep them for some time in case needed.

Attached you will find an update of the Script (Version 1.0.6). It also works with local Contacts now (no need to configure the PublicFolder anymore).

@mOrbo Thanks that helps.... and works like a charm...
I might dig into it to have the company name as a name when there is no First and Lastname in the contact...

@NickD_3CX Just get your devs to work out issues...https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/snom-phonebook-queued-for-development.48088/ that are years old then nobody has to do hackie stuff like this... Was not expecting non working / usable phone books (in 2019) on phones listed as supported... when deciding on using 3cx...

A little update of the Script (Version 1.0.8). Snom changed the numbertype "cell" to "mobile" in newer Firmwares. It's now also possible to just set a company name as a contact, without first or last name (thanks to spuky).

In principle this should work, but since I know that there are two different XML structures for remote phonebooks, I cannot say it 100%.

And since I don't have such hardware in stock at the moment, I can't test it at the moment.
