DIDForSale provider and Fax

I have all the ports forwarded and the firewall checker comes back 100% clean. What in my firewall would cause this? I'm running a IPCop installation behind my Verizon router. My IPCop is DMZed in my verizon router and then all the ports are forwarded to my server. Everything else seems to work. What am I missing?

Get wireshark and do a capture. It is the only reliable way to determine how and if the packets are being routed/received correctly.

The log is indicating that no RTP packets are being received. You can use the telephony flow to see how the call is being negotiated and then see what IP addresses are being used.

I have seen where the firewall only kept the port open for a little bit and then shut it down.
I have seen where the RTP packets got routed to an IP that was not the same as the one needed (maybe a second NIC in the server)
I have seen where the firewall perceived the constant stream as a DOS attack (my guess)

The bottom line is that while the logs are very helpful, they don't show all the activity, they only show the activity that is centric to the IP address of the 3CX server.

I've installed Wireshark. I've never used this before. I just tried to send a fax using faxzero service. I have wireshark running. How tdo I just sort out the information needed to look into this. Also what about the other error thats in my system eventlog?

The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display the message, or you may not have permission to access them. The following information is part of the event:'Service procedure completed with code 0'

I appreciate all the help and plan on purchasing this software once I get this up and running.

Ok, let's focus on the basics to begin with.

You are using a Sip trunking provider? If not, then what? You have a DID dedicated as a inbound fax number and the DID is being routed to the system fax extension 888 by rule. The sip provider has conditioned the line for t.38 and this has been confirmed. I question this as you seemingly have reported a couple of different providers. Please indicate the sip provider name.

You have tested the 3cx send mail capability and have received messages.
You have opened and forwarded the appropriate ports on you router according to the blog, port 10000-10009 udp and pointed them to the server?

You have stopped and restarted the fax server to be certain it is running and system extension 888 currently shows registered?
Did you modify any of the fax template files? If so, how.
What version of 3cx?

I know that many of these are redundant to prior question/answers, I am just trying to get a new base established.

Ok so here is what I got.

I have DIDForSale as my DID provider.
3CX Version 11 SP3 running
Windows 2003 Enterprise Server SP2 completely up to date w/ 2GB RAM

I have verified with DIDForSale that the line is setup for t.38.
The emails are correctly sending and I have the following ports forwarded to my box

5000, 5060, 5090, 9000-9049 & 10000-10009 all forwarded to my Server.

When I stop and restart the Fax server is when I get this error:

When clicking on the System extensions I do see 888 registered but idle.

Well the first issue is that the log file is 4 days old, so am uncertain that what happened then is representative of what might happen now. You did not indicate if you edited any of the fax templates. There was a blog requirement for earlier 3CX versions that required some additional preparation for faxing. Did you edit the templates?

What edition of 3CX? Now that we know it is v11, would like to know if free, demo, 4 call, etc.

What SY saw is that the log is indicating that an attempt was made to negotiate a protocol between 3CX and your provider. However, it appears that the provider's system rejected the attempt. Presumably, the attempt was to get to T.38. This goes hand-in-hand with the lack of packets that I noticed.

I apologize. I am using DEMO mode so that I can test all of the enterprise features and the Fax being a big one. I just tried sending another fax through faxzero.com website and here is the log of the call.

i did not make any changes to the fax templates. I simply installed 3CX and then put in a demo key. i have not made any changes to the system or its files in any fashion.

Can you check and see if you just got a fax cover page. I sent one to what I think is the number and got a success indication.

NO, I used the 800 number. When I tried the 215 number I get nothing but a fast busy. So, it seems that you have employed some form of fax forwarding service.

Have you tried to dial the number (215) your self and if so, what do you get?

My impression is that there should be a DID provided from a provider that allows direct access to 3CX and then routed accordingly to the server at 888.

All I have is a DID that is from DIDForSale and setup in my box with an inbound rule to send to the email of the extension. If I call the number I am getting disconnected right away.

You use DID4Sale as a provider. How many DID numbers do you subscribe to?

You should have one DID that is, by rule, indicated as send fax to email of extension 888.

I just tried again with a fax. Please check your logs. I just get a fast busy, so am uncertain that I even reach 3CX.

Yes, that is me.

Will definitely need a wireshark capture. I am using nothing more than a fax machine connected to an analog POTS line. Sorry but I am done for the eve. I will try and help more tomorrow.

How exactly should I run the wireshark capture. Is there anything specific that I should be running in it or just hit run and then try to find it in the logs? I've never used Wireshark actually. I did run and try to find RTP packets and it looks like it came in with no loss but again I'm not sure if I was using it correctly.

Before we get to wireshark, there have been quite a few changes -

When you first started the thread, you indicated that you were running the application on a server, but did not mention which OS. You then reported that the server failed and that you had installed on WIN7. You subsequently reported that you re-setup your server and that you were then on Server 2008. In the message yesterday, responding to my back to basics, you then/now respond that the software is on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2. What are we actually working with? Server 2003 is not supported for V11. Now then, this does not necessarily mean that it won't/does not work, just that issues might arise which may cause a problem and for which support to resolve may be non-existent. Again, I do not know that any of your issues are related, but by the same token it is always better to work with the approved objects (SIP providers, phones, gateways, etc.), so that the need to re-invent the wheel is not encountered.

So which OS and if 2003, can we get to an OS that is supported? Server 2008 or WIN 7 would be fine, but I encourage you to use the machine & OS that you intend to put into production should you ultimately elect to buy the software. I would not use 2003 as 3CX could come up with a service pack, new version or other future tidbit that really forces 2003 out the door. Why take the chance.

Finally, for the machine that we will continue with, make certain that the initial install and subsequent set-up and troubleshooting is limited to only one network interface card. If there are others, please disable them.

Yes I have moved it between a few different machines trying to get this as of right now the server is installed on a Windows 2003 machine. If its not supported I must of missed that and its my fault. I do have the windows 7 machine setup still. Let me bring that back online. This machine has only 1 network card.
