Hi,

The title says it all ... with scheduled backups activated and multiple clients to manage, we are being bombarded with emails. We should have the option of only receiving emails when an error happens.

This cant be that hard to implement. When can we expect this?

LIke to +1 on this, seems like a simple option request.

I want to feed the admin emails into my ticketing system but writing a subject filter in my software isn't an option right now. This seems like an easier fix in the PBX side.

I am strongly against it. Not getting a mail is not equal it is working. Only confirmation of a successful backup is proof that it works. Otherwise, your SMTP settings can eat up the mail telling you it is not working but you assume that not getting a mail is a sign of being ok

I understand your concern Stefan. If you only monitored 1 system then the lack of a success or fail email would stand out. However if a support mailbox is monitoring multiple instances then in reality 1 of many success emails would go unnoticed. My view is that a fail notification by email is something that needs addressing urgently. Checking the success of backups (and that the backup is valid and can be restored from) is something that should be part of a partners routine maintenance programme.

Do NOT consider.
You must know that a back-up is successful. Al other situations (including no message) indicates a problem.

stefanw/geecee this is BS and just another toil task ...
proper monitoring can check for a valid backup without annoying ppl via email.

one should at least have a choice if they get notified or not

you are utterly right. You should have the option to get notified or not (not more or less options).
Handling the conclusion if the backup was successful is not up to the PBX but to a person and/or monitoring system.

I am strongly against anybody saying what is best for me or my clients. As I said, we SHOULD HAVE THE CHOICE !

I use many many different backups solutions from many different providers, not ONE IMPOSES this option.

Agreed +1 for an option, then the partner/end user decide. In general it would be useful if the email error notification system could be improved and allow routing of specific errors to specific users. For instance the person that needs to know an emergency number was dialled will most likely be different to the person that needs to know a backup failed or a SIP truck is down.

This definitely needs addressing. We have so many Backup emails 1 a day from every system we manage, that actual issues such as a Trunk failing, or System out of disk space don't get picked up. It ruins the rest of the email notifications.
As a simple option I would prefer just to turn off the backup notifications completely, but ideally as others have written, please provide an option to email on a Backup error. Surely this can't be too hard to add to the existing Emails/Notifications tab.

Then we need the option to turn it off. This should be our choice. We take offsite backups every time we change teh system for s customer. We can easily check the 3CX Portal to see that 3CX System backups are enabled and running, as it shows in one nice list there.

Can you check backups are all running of the partner instance portal? I didn't think you could. But this would be a good place to display if last backup was successful and the time of that back (just as additional column on the instance list, and be able to sort by date etc.).

Sorry Guys, receiving a successful mail or not, isn't a warranty a backup is properly done , i've got a stack of zero bytes file generated by 3cx scheduled backup and wrongly considered as a well done backup by 3CX process.
IMO first important step is to increase what's checked on backup and how, not based on an email received or not.

Last thing,in my email client (thunderbird) I've created dedicated fake email adress for each pbx , these adresses are set in each pbx as email sender, when a notification is sent to only one real mail box, a filter is sorting alone mails in right folders pbx named, nothing else to see once a day if new events are coming.
Nothing in mess with others mails, everything is sorted by pbx , nothing to search to know which pbx sent notification. spent time , really, few minutes.

Another, what seems to be a very basic and fundamental modification to 3CX is not available after many years... How about a little less on the 90's call flow designer and more on some of the basics?

If 3cx is against this (which I can see why), can a compromise be met?

Maybe just allow us to change the reply-to address or destination address for backup emails?

I have ~40 3cx deployments and I'm unsure how 3cx envisioned urgent alerts to work if backup emails go to the same box. It would be nice to separate the noise, so we have clearly defined alert emails for 3cx and backup job emails (as I'm sure most companies have more than just 3cx to backup. Most already have a dedicated spot for backup notifications and routine to check them)

+1.

We need the option.

We had to write a policy in our spam filter to weed these out.
