There this issue was examined.
Task: i need to tune up VIP extension. This extension must be available for 20-30 callers (based on caller ID). This can be external (through SIP trunk, external partners) and internal (secretary) callers.
This solution offers to block only particular numbers, it can be more than one, but i can't add ANY OTHER THAN number.

For example, i need to allow only number "1234". I can add exception rule "for numbers 0000-1233,1235-9999 end call":

All seems ok, but what if this VIP extension receive call from caller +123(456)789-0123?
While VIP extension haven't route from SIP trunk, we know all possible numbers and can expect it in our rule, but this isn't our situation.
I can't add exception rule "for numbers * end call":in this case call from extension "1234" will be blocked too.

So, how can i block incoming calls from ALL numbers, except some particular?

As per the slide says.

order of rules are important.

rule 1 - allow 1234
rule 2 - block everything else

You could change the EXT status to DND or something then your exclusions will work.

I can't set up "allow" rule, only "forward" or "End call", no matter, what status extension currently have.
Rules work correctly, but i have no required (allow) action in rules list.

Ah yes I see what you're saying.

what about a firewall EXT?

so an EXT in front of this that will forward allowed calls to your EXT?

Yes, i think about it, but this "hidden" EXT have the same troubles - it must drop all incoming calls except allowed callers. So we have the same issue as with one EXT construction.

disable VM and the call will drop

Voicemail

sorry, i didn't understand - how disabling voicemail will help to add "allow" rule in exceptions list?

Your firewall EXT will be always DND so when any call comes in, it goes to Voicemail. With VM disabled it will drop the call. EXCEPT when you forward to EXT.

Otherwise, im not sure how others have achieved what you want. you'll have to wait to hear from them.

Yes, but what if user decide to call not to "firewall EXT", but directly to "hidden EXT"? hidden EXT must be protected from this situation. So i must set up incoming rules not only for "firewall EXT", but for "hidden EXT" too.
And in this step we have the same issue - i can't set up "allow" rule for "hidden EXT".

In reality...what are the chances this is going to happen?

As a responsible system administrator, I want to sleep peacefully and know that there are no potential problems from this side.

This would depend entirely on the caller you're talking about. Are you still talking about external caller calling this EXT?

Only way this could happen is if your inbound rule tells that call to go there or from IVR. If IVR you'd have to look at this post to stop it from being dialed.

ok, thanks for support. Solution with 2 extensions are applicable.
