Hello,

I was wondering if its possible if I have 3CX hosted on an offsite server in a hosted datacenter to route calls to an external number such as a cell phone if the network goes down at the site where the phones would be. For example, there is a company in Texas called rackspace that offers hosted esxi services, if we setup a 3cx linux vm on their hosted esxi to provide pbx services to a network is there a way that 3cx can detect a state of no connectivity and forward calls to an external number until connectivity is re-established, or at least achieve something like this?

There are two ways to accomplish this. For the scenario where 3CX is running/available but the endpoints are not registered you would use the extension statuses to handle the forwarding. For instances where 3CX is down then it would be dependent on your provider to be able to forward calls if 3CX is unavailable. We can do that with our SIP trunking.

Also, unless you are a big Rackspace fan or have services already with Rackspace I'd recommend using one of the Cloud Providers available via PBXExpress (AWS/Azure/GCE) instead for a smoother experience.

Hello @TagleRock

As mentioned 3CX can detect if an extension is unregistered and use that to forward the calls to an outside number. If the PBX is also not available then this has to be done at the providers side.

If downtime is a major concern based on experience with outages at a rack center, I would recommend moving to 3CX Enterprise licensing. It's not that much more than Professional and it gives you failover so you could keep your PBX at Rackspace - and if the VM fails, goes down for maintenance or is otherwise interrupted, you could set up a failover at say, Amazon Lightsail (VERY cheap) and use it only for the failover event.

Also - use a session border controller (if you're not already doing so)!!
