Heavy echo in my incoming calls with Grandstream

All of a sudden on one of my PSTN lines I am having heavy echo today. Precisely I can hear the other party very well with no echo or any problems, but everything I say comes back to me extremely clear and loud with a 0.5 to 1 second delay.
This is on my HT488 connected line. I checked the line out with an analog phone connected directly to it. It's "pin drop" quality, I've never had any problems with my provider in this many years, and there is no problem with the line itself now.
Any ideas where I should start my troubleshooting?

After many years experience with my ISDN line - echo, noise, calling problems either came from one of two things:

The hardware in my case pbx system (static charge normally built up)
Or BT (line provider) - a problem on there end.

Can i suggest for you to restart everything, maybe give it 10 minutes cool down period, to clear any capacitor charge, and also calling your telephone provider to see if there is a problem in your area - ask them to run a trace on your line.

Have you managed to sort this problem out?

It seems like im having the same problem when i call inbound using sipgate - the others i've yet to test.
If i call from an ISDN line/mobile to VOIP - i can hear my self speak in delay - and the other person crackles alot.

Im going to run a few more test to see if i can narrow down why its happening.

Ok - both sipgate and voiptalk the results are the same:

Calling from a UK mobile phone / landline (person A) to computer software phone (person B)

Person B can hear, and speak without problems of echo going outbound to person A.
Persona A can hear themself echo when they speak.

Calling from VOIP (person C) to UK landland (person D)

Person C cannot hear person D clearly.
Person D can here a very digitalized sound from person C - i.e. choppy.

Hmm - after trying more testing - im think it must be my hardware somewhere along the line, every provide (voip) has the same problem to a degree or another.

Can anyone help shed some light on this?

We had similar problems with GXP2000

It turned out to be a firmware issue.

Firmware upgrade on the Grandstream phones helped just a little bit, but freeing up the computer where I run 3CX from all the clutter (virus & spyware detector, useless programs running in the tray, or as service) helped alot. Now echo is down to a minimum and it's bearable. But in the meantime we figured out the fundamental reason behind "digital" echo. Most of the echo problems that VOIP phones are experiencing are not "analog" problems but digital echo cancellation shortcomings in the algorithms used.

I wouold suggest if you are using a quility of service device to make sure you have it set to like a 1-10 in your device. Please be advised you also need to make sure you switch, and router can handle QOS.

I agree the firmware improved it to a usable level.
Changing from Grandstream to Snom gave is a professional quality system.

What makes the Snom phones any significantly better than the competition?
What do you like so much about them?

Halea,
Snom has much more features, easier to configure, has much better standard comliance. Actually, we haven't found any deviations from standards which it supports. I'm working with Snom 360 with big pleasure. When something doesn't go right on it - it almost always means we have a bug.

I only have experience of Grandstream, Snom and a variety of softphones.
I only know the call quality, configuration, firmware upgrading on the Snom was significantly improved compared to the Grandstream.

That and I got a load half price!
