For the IP phone on remote side to really recognize

Ehh with remote side you mean a phone connected to the LinkSYS or D-Link. I hope you do not mean a phone connected on another site.

If so you have to introduce VPN, that is really the only way to go about having phones connected as an extension from a remote site into your site. That will involve changes on your modem.

That process is messy and you have to do some serious reading up on that because if you get lost in it you can bring your network down.


The 5060 ports are for SIP traffic so I would recommend to use them for that. To manage the 3cx Server remote, yep you can do that but you have to setup a virtual server for the 3cx admin console. In your case you have to add port 5481 the same way you added the ports for 3cx.

That should work.

Yes Henk, i mean to connect (to find the D-Link or Linksys Ip router or 3CX IP forward) a IP PHone as extension of 3CX in other city or country or as necessary for our travels worldwide.

So we will have to make changes in the modem, something like a bridge configure it?

In theory you can do that if you have some firewall software on it that allows you to creat a VPN, but the public IP address will be bound to your modem. So I think it would be easier for you to upgrade the modem to one that allows VPN etc. Perhaps even get one that has FXO and FXS ports so it can work as your ATA. I would not recommend to attach any computers you use for your business directly to the internet, unless it is a dedicated firewall box like ms ISA.

I need to know what device you use, but see my previous comment. I think it will be easier for you to get an edge device that supports VPN.

What modem are you using now?

One of office is a cable modem Webstar from Scientific Atlanta, i think is a old one...

Another office is a ADSL modem D-link 502 G

There is only this way via VPN to connect and admin 3CX server via remote?

Do do it over a WAN and stable, yes I am affraid so.

To support VPN you need to make sure that both devices can handle VPN.

Ill have a look at your D-Link when I get back in the office.

Hello

Im still confused. After reading in the forums about people using the Linksys SPA2102 I went and bought one to use as a gateway.

Reading the manual prior to installation it tells you to connect 2 phones to the 2 ports and specifically says do NOT connect the phone port to the telephone wall jack, make sure you only connect a telephone or fax to the phone ports. Otherwise, the unit or the telephone wiring in your home or office may be damaged. Has anyone had any problems with this? WOuld hate to try and then blow the system.

This device does not has an FXO port they are two FXS ports.

THis means that you can only plug in the normal phones (FXS Ports), there should be no problem with you plugging your normal POTS phones.

YOu than have to connect the 2102 to a modem using the RJ45 connection, so what it does is convert your analogue traffic to SIP type traffic.

It does not allow for PSTN connections as it does not have a FXO port.

Oops for got this one.

Both the D-Link and Lynksys support VPN so there should not be an issue to configure that.

Before you do VPN see if you for sure cannot use the setting "extension is external" for your extensions.

But in the other remote side the IP Phones or ATAs needs to see the 3CX IP to find it and connect it extensions...so I think the only way to do it is via VPN.

Please if possible for you could you send us the VPN diagram for botth devices please!

That my friend is something I cannot do :cry:

I do not have either of the devices so that would be hard to trouble shoot if i do it wrong.

Do a search on google it might show up something.

I honestly do not have the time, I just became 3CX Partner and start to do some ground work to get this software rolling in Australia and New Zealand.

Sorry, but setting up the VPN configuration for both devices is better done by yourself or someone in our area so if you have troubles you can fall back onto them
