Hello guys,

we are hosting our 3CX on a cloud service its been working fine in KSA even thu the Patton gateway shows red but when we try connecting other employees from Egypt it does not work without a VPN installed even with a VPN the voice has a major delay & too mush noise, what could be the cause of this we tried contacting the hosting service to check if they are blocking Egypt IP's but they were not. we also tried using an SBC it did not work with out a VPN but the voice is way better than it was without an SBC how can i get rid of the VPN & connect directly what could be the issue here ?

Also if someone pls shed light as to what should the patton do knowing that we are not using a VOIP we are only using PSTN analog lines, meaning we are using the Patton to route to the PSTN lines

Could it be that Egypt blocks the hosting provider due to censorship? this would explain why only a VPN unblocks the connection for the cost of "hops" between the user and the PBX. This then creates delays in the IP package transmission and the result is jittery, delayed and bad audio.

so you mean its the other way around Egypt is the one blocking the hosting service, if so how can i check that, i tried pinging my 3cx server ip address but it times out even when pinging from KSA

PING is not reliable to determine connectivity - ICMP can be disabled.

okay, i have another question can 3CX work by connecting directly to the SIP Trunk without a voice gateway

It's an additional option, especially for people that don't have access to SIP trunks for one reason or another, but do have access to analog lines

so the voice gateway should be used only if you dont have access to SIP Trunks, meaning if a SIP is added you should not use a voice gateway

I have another question, can the SIP Trunk be used by an office in another geographical location ?

Not necessarily. Some customers use them both at the same time
One example can be a UK company the has analog lines, but they also opened offices in Germany

- They have for example UK lines working via a gateway
- They also have German lines working via a trunk

So they can both work either together or independently. It's like i said before, you have both options in 3CX and you can use whichever one is the best for your case.

got you, so in my current situation we are working in KSA via a SIP Trunk but we have opened an office in Egypt which when trying to connect to from Egypt it does not work unless with a VPN & an SBC, how can we solve this issue to have it work without a VPN should we get another SIP Trunk in Egypt & route to our IVR extension ?

What do the employees use to connect to the PBX? Webclient/windows client/mobile client?

I tried windows & mobile apps all have the same issue

Then it may be the case as Stefan said earlier, that the Egyptian internet provider does not allow you to reach the cloud PBX. You have to run tests from the Egypt office and see if it can connect to the webclient of your cloud PBX. If not then communication will not be possible

The only solution is for the Egypt office to use a VPN, that allows them to reach the cloud PBX.
Depending on the distance and the performance of the VPN, you may not be able to avoid bad quality audio and delay. You might not be able to avoid this.

will check the web client from Egypt & get back to you. If we switched from cloud to local 3CX server or used another hosting service will that fix the issue or is the issue with the 3CX cloud PBX

Hi Rowid,

As we discussed before, the concept is very simple: your employees need a connection that allows them to reach the PBX.

So really, it doesn't matter where you choose to deploy it - just so long you make sure as it is reachable by the people that need to use it.

The reachability is something you need to test for yourself is more of a networking matter, not related to 3CX as a product, so unfortunately we cannot help you with that part. It would be exactly the same problem if you deployed a web server, an email server, a CRM server etc..

The web client does not connect from Egypt, but i have setup a local server & it connects fine without a VPN does that mean if i transfer the SIP settings to the local it will work fine, please let me know as we are currently operational & cant risk the down time for nothing

We can't know whether it will work or not without testing it.

I recommend that you run your own tests outside of working hours to find out.

You can use the backup feature on your PBX as a safety, it will help you quickly restore your server in case anything goes wrong.
