I'm sorry if this is too much of a noob question. I did some searching and saw multiple threads related to older versions of 3CX, but almost nothing about V16.

My info:
  • 3CX Version - Standard Annual 16.0.3.xxx (Latest release)
  • Server OS - Linux (Packaged version in the .iso)
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? - Local
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware - Grandstream GXP2170 v.1.35 (latest supported)
  • Provisioning Method: Local / VPN / STUN / SBC - Local
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model - Wiretap telecom (approved vendor)
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO
I'm having trouble getting caller ID to work properly with a CNAM on any of my systems. Example: If my business "IP Phones Inc" number is (555) 555-1212 and I make a call out, the recipient will always see the number, but never the name I have associated with it. When I receive calls, the display will only ever show the caller's number and never their CNAM. I've worked with the trunk provider to ensure my settings are actually adding the CNAM to my calls out and that I am setup to dip the CNAM on incoming calls, but it just doesn't work.

Is there something in 3CX I should be doing to enable this? Is there something else I should be checking on the trunk-side of things? All suggestions appreciated and thanks!

Bump with a little more info:

Wiretap contacted me with a verification that they are properly pushing CID and we are receiving DIPs. So its looking like its a 3CX config issue. Anyone have suggestions?

If you are in the US all you can do is push the number. Looking up CNAM is the responsibility of the receiving party.

Thanks cobaltit. Yes, I'm in the US. Here's the rub though: If I call from one PBX to another completely separate one, (Both are supposedly properly setup at the SIP level) I still don't get the CNAM to show up. So I'm guessing its not pulling it properly or displaying it properly at the 3CX or phone level. That's where I think my question is headed....

The fact that they are SIP on both ends doesn't mean anything unless both are 'on-net' with the same provider. In that case many times the CNAM you provide will come across (it does on our network) but for offnet calls the only thing that is passed is the number and the receiver is responsible for lookup. But your carrier would be the one to tell you which field you should be publishing in.

When I receive calls, the display will only ever show the caller's number and never their CNAM.
There are a number of caller ID options, in the trunk settings, in 3CX. Perhaps others that are also using Wiretap telecom can offer some suggested changes, that might be required. Have you used Wireshark, or perhaps even the Activity Log, to confirm that a name is actually being sent?

We have to enable CNAM lookup with Flowroute and pay a per call fee for the lookup.
It was not enabled by default.
Wiretap says they are sending Caller ID - but are they doing a name lookup as well?
The first SIP vendor I used didn't even have Name Lookup offered.
