Good evening,
a customer asks me to implement a 3CX standard but only wants softphones.
his computers are all iMacs, I think with good hands-free and the webclient it is possible to satisfy him but I have some questions:
  • which wireless hands-free model?
  • will he be able to answer directly from the hands-free without having to be in front of the computer?
  • how to manage QoS since there is no Vlan.

If someone has already implemented an equivalent scenario I am interested in their experience.
Thank you.

Hi @WellBeIn

You can use Sennheiser headsets which are supported by 3CX (to answer call with button) which integrate using their Mac HeadSetup software.

For QoS you can prioritize any traffic that will run on the PBX WebRTC audio ports (Usually 10500-10999)

hi @JohnS_3CX
thanks for your reply.

For Sennheiser, 3CX Softphone don't appear in the compatibility list from Relase note (https://s3.amazonaws.com/assets.sen...ELEASE_NOTES_for_Sennheiser_Headsetup_MAC.pdf)
are you totaly sure that it's okay for my purpose ?

Also, there's no Download link on the download page (little bit funy) https://fr-ca.sennheiser.com/telecommunication-business-support-service-support-software (the Pro version is only for Windows...)

The last supported OS is Mac OS Sierra ... are you sur Sennheiser still maintain this software ?

Hi,

I have successfully answered and ended calls using the button on my headset with following setup here in our test environment:

Mac OS: Mojave 10.14.6
Headset: Sennheiser DW Pro 2 with latest firmware V160
Sennheiser HeadSetup for Mac: V5.3.7011
3CX Webclient: Running on a local 3CX PBX V16.0.2.910
Mac Chrome: 76.0.3809.132

Indeed I also was not able to find Sennheiser HeadSetup for Mac V5.3.7011 via their website, I believe it is best to contact them directly and see if there is any reason they removed it before you proceed. If you have any existing wireless headsets you can try them first to confirm it's what you are looking for. The Webclient currently also supports Jabra and Plantronics although not officially.

Great !
thank you very much taking time to test & validate.
i'll contact them for that.
have a good day.

Hi John,
I come back to the subject of WebRTC ports.
is it normal that they are not documented anywhere at 3CX?
we talk a lot about ports 9000 to 9500 but never about these?

Another question, because finally we deployed the 3CX client on the workstations. Do Windows / MacOS softphones use the same ports to connect/communicates ?

what do you advise me about QoS with 3CX softphones ?
(knowing that the standard is in Cloud but Fixed IP).

Thank you.

Hi @WellBeIn

Actually they are well documented because we always recommend to open 9000-10999. WebRTC and Desktop app softphones are included in this ranges, all the info you need is here with descriptions https://www.3cx.com/docs/ports/

As for desktop client QoS, I suggest to use the tunnel and prioritize port 5090 which will transport SIP and RTP via a single port.

ok, thanks.
I knew your link but I found it a little ambiguous since the webrtc is not explicitly indicated.

For Desktop clients, the use of the tunel is by default right ?

Yep, no worries. You can enable the tunnel in the extension's settings and then reprovision the client.
Here is what the extension should look like:
